Let's talk Bama weaknesses...

I haven't watched them very much this year.

Their D seems vulnerable to a dual-threat QB. Jennings had a lot of positive gains against them. Hopefully, Dak will have a big game.

How is their secondary?

With Yeldon banged up, we could force the game into their QB's hands, and he has not impressed me. We have to shut down Cooper and 2.

Their kicker seems to be about as bad as ours.

What other weaknesses can we exploit?

With Yeldon inured and Drake out, their offense is all Amari Cooper. We have to double him and get some pass rush on Sims. Do that and they won't score many points at all. Defensively, their front is very good against the run. We won't be able to just line up and run at them. But like you said, they're vulnerable to QB draws and zone read option. And they HATE hurry up offenses. We've got to snap the ball with 20 seconds on the play clock every time and keep them off balance. Do that and we will break 30, and that will be enough to win the game.

Agreed and would like to add that their stunts on D are extremely vulnerable to our seam pass to the tight end that Dak has thrown several times lately. If we are able to pick up their blitz and audible, it could slow them down considerably after it works a couple of times.

They will put cooper in motion A LOT to try to get mismatches an to keep us from jamming him up front. We aren't going to be able to just simply line Redmond up over him and that's that.. Everyone is going to have to cover him.

They run a 3-3-5 defensive package. On runs DL clogs the middle, LBs are fast to the outside. It allows for more exotic blitz schemes. But it is vulnerable to the option. I think it's their base defense, but they switch alot. If we see it, Dak, JRob option all the way down the field. No huddle, don't let them sub, and take advantage of strength on weakness.

Don't sleep on Derrick Henry, it's not much of a dropoff, but I agree. Bama isn't that great on offense, and vulnerable

Agreed....Derrick Henry seems to be more of a pure power back whereas Yeldon had the mad cut skills. We handled Arkansas run game and it is similar to Derrick Henry's skill set.

ball over and give them short fields. If we play our game we have a reasonable chance.

Nobody is sleeping on Henry...he is very good. He is an elite talent. The thing to watch is depth...if Yeldon can't go, can Henry carry the ball 30 times?

Sims is not a very good down field passer. I think he only had two Saturday down field. They are going to keep on throwing 5 to 10 yard slants to cooper hoping he can break tackles. Just my opinion.

Just make sure Cooper is doubled every play..

Sims' first read is Cooper every play. Chavis decided to play man a few times and got burned on the TD play. Playing corners 10 yards off the line is a huge mistake. They will throw the quick screen to Cooper and it's goodnight at that point. It's really simple, make someone else beat us. I don't believe Sims is capable of doing that with Cooper contained. If we don't turn the football over and basically hand them the game, we will win.

I think you are spot on about running no huddle. We may not see more than a couple MSU offensive huddles in the first half.

The key to beating our defense is to stick with the Power-I. Maybe throw 5 or 6 times all game.

I think yall are getting a little too wrapped up in last week.

Though I agree that Sims looked shaky, he has also looked spectacular at times this year...and particularly at home. He had one of the best QBR in the country going into last week. Plus, LSU's secondary is better than ours.

They have some weaknesses on defense that we can exploit, but we will have to execute at a higher level than we have the last few games. Dak needs to go though 2 reads and be ready to bolt. This is what he did on the long TD Saturday. Bama is way more vulnerable on a QB run that comes out of a passing play than they are on a straight keeper.

Also, I dont think I would put Redmond on Cooper. I would double him, and you don't use your best cover corner on the double. I would put Redmond on White and throw Calhoun/Love + a safety on Cooper all night. Wells can handle OJ Howard.

Troll Kiffin. Merlin gets in pissing contests with the likes of Malzahn and Sumlin. I think if Merlin threw out some gimmick formations, Kiffin would totally take the bait. Kiffin showed he had some unbalanced formations in the OT. I think he would go to those early if Merlin called that formation where he splits the line out wide like against USCe 2011.

THis is a good plan. If you take Cooper away their passing game is limited. Have to have a good scheme or some stud defensive backs to do it. Introduce Mr Smith to Simms early and often you will be fine. Anxious to see how you do on offense against their defense since our offense is similar to yours. DOnt forget the refs are going to screw you on every spot and call some phantom penalties if they can. Just part of the landscape in Bryant Denny.

So far, they've played Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss, Florida, and TAMU at home. That's three teams who are above 100 in total defense, and one who played by far their worst game of the season.
