Oh he made plenty of bad decisions earlier. The two 4th down calls early come to mind.
Exactly. His offense isn't consistent enough to risk 4th down in your own territory.
He makes some good calls but overall his play calling is killing or has killed this team!
And let’s talk about overtime. He may be the worse overtime play caller in the history of college football. That was beyond pathetic. Yes we got absolutely screwed in the TX touchdown call. But it wouldn’t have mattered.
He's very uneven and the team mirrors that. He'll have a great playcalling series and Shapen will look sharp - then he'll have a spotty one and/or Shapen will do some really bad things.

Let’s make sure we set the record straight there. His awful playcalling should have only cost us 3 points, but it paved the way for his awful coaching of discipline and football IQ to show up for 4 more.
Lebby and Shapen both turn full idiot in crunch time. Shapen is visibly rattled in late game situations. It’s in his head now

The good coaches don't get themselves into Lebby situations.
Lebby and Shapen both seem to thrive at high pace where they just react quickly and let tempo be their friends. Give them time to think and bad bad things happen.
I like his offense a lot, but his game management skills stink.
