The announcement of the closure caused some initial confusion.

The Richmond Register posed an article Tuesday with the news. Parkette posted on social media later that day the article was inaccurate.

As of this morning, WKYT can confirm that the Lexington staple is closed for good.

Bad news to start the day with.

Their Facebook account shared a message saying the story isn't true but the Richmond Register (never heard of this) is doubling down.

EDIT: Lex18 just said CONFIRMED.

Not sure why Parkette would share a post saying something is untrue only to have it confirmed less than a day later.

Gonna miss the Poor Boy and Shrimp Box. Hopefully this doesn't result in another north Lex car lot.

Only two icons left now on the north side...PDQ and Burgers/Shakes.

I think former UK lefty Tom Parker may have had a connection to the Parkette. I liked visiting there occasionally.

In the story I really liked that John Y Brown got served in his crappy bully style lawsuit. Had to pay Mr Smiley!

Apparently the property owner told the news that they were selling the property and not renewing the lease for the Parkette Drive in. The property owner hadn't talked to the Parkette drive in owner before they released the news story.

I've never stopped at Burgers/Shakes. Need to give it a shot before it befalls the same fate.

I always went to Parkette once or twice a year for a poor boy and onion rings. Damn this sucks.

Joe Balognas is the favorite restaurant of any lifelong resident of Lexington who was born in the 50's and 60's, similar to Columbia's and Parkette.

Boomer nostalgia has been keeping a lot of places afloat for a while now.

Wow pretty poor taste especially given the length of business.

I think it's pretty great especially the giant breadstick. I like their food better than Goodfellas.
I was making a poor attempt at humor based on the misspelling of Balogna vs. Bologna.

I'm a fan of Joe Bologna's. The breadstick is what they're famous for. Other items can be hit or miss, but it's a local institution.

Parkette Fried Chicken
Joe Bologna breadstick and pizza
Columbia’s is fine. Not a favorite.
Burgers and Shakes is not great, but it’s fun to reminisce.

In other words, miss me with all that Lexington nastalgia hate.

Loudon Square was my go to when I worked on that side of town. It was a dump but always scored very well when Max was there and the food and prices were unbeatable. Hated to hear old Max fell and couldn't keep it running, and has since passed on. Good guy that worked his *** off to make other people happy and full.

that's funny because my 3 favorite places are Joe B's, Columbias (for the special) and the Parkette. And I formed my memories of them in the late 70's.

Hate to hear the Parkette closed down but I haven't even thought about that place in years. I ate at Columbias 2 years ago and Joe B's just last year. Never cared for the new location at Joe B's. The Limestone location had more character ( and bigger bread sticks)

I've never actually been inside Columbias, but I have had the nighthawk special with a diego salad delivered a couple of times.

Always enjoyed Joe Bologna’s at the old spot. Never tried Parkette.

Parkette had large portions of good comfort food at a reasonable price. Not much more you can ask. I'm disappointed to see them go.
The livers and gizzards basket with fries and gravy was well worth the price.

I remember Parkette was on the flavortown guys show once.
Yup it’s almost like a food network jinx - Lynn’s paradise cafe was on one of Bobby flay’s show

There was a BBQ place on Clays Mill that made the show. I went to try it out because it was close by. It did not shut down because of a food network jynx. It was a horrible pos and disgrace to BBQ. I was so mad after eating there. They had meat in bags, and like, warmed it up in hot water. I hope they’re all in prison now.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say Lexus of Lexington will buy that property and expand their lot. They have had issues with having enough lot space for when they get loaded up with inventory.

That place was insane expensive to boot. Barbeque amazes me how expensive it is in general but it was going to be around $65 for a family meal and that didn't include drinks. Nope, see ya.

There have been TWO BBQ places in that location and BOTH ended up on TV and closed

The first was JJ McBrewster’s and it was complete trash. I remember when it came out that they were going to be on TV, and everyone’s collective reaction was “Why?!!!”.

The second was Lyles and it was actually good, but then they went on “The Profit” with Marcus Lemonis and way overextended themselves by opening Nash’s on Southland Drive in the old Trumps/Show Me’s/Willy’s Locally Known/Big Kahuna place. Then closed very shortly after.

At least now we get the divine blessing that is Crank & Boom in that spot.
