What can we say about LCA that haven't been said a thousand times in the last few years?

I'll defer to Mike and his knowledge of LCA, for a prognosis.

Just looking back at their record, until the last three years, they were the league and/or state champions for every year since 2003. And 2004 through 2013, they never lost more than two games during any one season.

2014 and last season saw a little fall off, but still winning records both years.

The question is, what happens next? I think we all know that they do not intend to be just a footnote in the VHSL. With all of their considerable resources, and basically a college level coaching staff, how long before they are a force to be reckoned with?

One last season before they are members of the very challenging Seminole District, will they use this year to make a splash in the playoffs?

Here is their 2016 schedule. What do you think? (I'm guessing 7-3 regular season).

6-4 losses to Amherst, Woodberry Forest, Martinsburg, and Norview. On the line for playoffs like last year. They have a good QB, but that may be about it. They could lose more than 4, but those are very likely losses in my mind. They could very easily go 5-5 & miss the playoffs.

I guessed the same four, but they get Norview last game, and at home. Norview has been pretty good the last two years, but they can be all over the board from year to year. (Millbrook excepted). And LCA seemed to get better late in the season last year, so I'm going with LCA to win it.

Like you say, it could be a do or die game for their playoff chances.

I don't see LCA ever being very competitive in 4A despite a good coaching staff. They simply will not be able to attract the athletes in the future that they were able to in the past. Once their re-classed and recruited athletes phase out it will be pretty dismal in all of their sports.

Bishop Sullivan is getting a lot of good football players from around the state since Chris Scott, Ocean Lakes former coach, took over. They're going to be absolutely loaded. I seen on the 5a board that they've picked up a big time linebacker from Richmond just the other day. I'm counting that not only to be a loss, but a big loss. I do agree with DP on the Norview game. Both teams will be battle tested as Norview plays the Springers and LT this year, but I can see LCA pulling off the upset to sneak in at 6-4. 5 hr bus drive, Norview could rest their starters, or LCA could just be in survival mode and pull it out. A lot of different scenarios but I still think LCA wins and makes the playoffs.

This is probably about right but the way things are now in the playoff system, I think 5 - 5 gets them in.

Bishop was another I was going to put in the loss column, but idk enough about them. From what I'm seeing and hearing the QB for LCA is the only real known that didn't graduate. He's a good solid QB, but he'll have to have guys step up to get back to the playoffs. Their introduction into the VHSL playoffs last year didn't go so well, so they have their work cut out for them just to get there this year.

Remember only 12 make it in 4A West, even if they manage 6 wins they'll be on the line like last year just to make it.

Has anyone ever seen a list of the VHSL groups that the private school are placed in for points purposes? For instance, what is Bishop? 5a? 6a? Woodberry Forrest? Fork Union, Home School, etc.?

No, but last year's schedule of 7 private schools for LCA hurt their points almost to the point of missing the playoffs. I can't remember the specifics, but none of their private school opponents were classified above 4A. 2 were 4A, 1 was 3A, 2 were 2A, and 2 were 1A.

If I had to guess I'd put Woodberry Forest as 4A, Bishop Sullivan as 2A, and Central Va HomeSchool at 1A.

They had to win 7 last year and barely made it. Their schedule will be tougher this year, with more potential points, but they'll need at least 6 to make it in 4A West.

Am I counting correctly? 6 VHSL teams, Martinsburg, and three privates?
I guess the potential for a better total points is there, slightly. But, I agree, 7 wins is almost a must.

Im surprised to see only 2 area teams on that schedule? You know Woodberry Forrest gonna bring it to em. They always stacked if I remember correctly.

Next year with new schedule cycle they'll pick up more locals as they'll pick up seminole play. If there gonna make the playoffs they better do it this year because there gonna have hard time getting above 500 once there in Seminole.

I have a hard time picking against any the Seminole schools there best bet would be rustburg maybe liberty an glass but i can see those 3 giving lca more than they can handle.
