I believe that is only the 2nd time we have ever won at IU'S Hall. Beat them at the old place in 1967. Assembly Hall opened in 1971. 2010 and 2020 are the only wins I can remember us garnering in Btown's gawd awful monstrosity. GREAT WIN 'CATS!!!

No, we beat them at Assembly Hall in Eschmeyer's senior year.

Assembly Hall IS A MONSTROSITY

Not sure why it’s relevant to point that out, but can’t understand why anyone would like that arena

Have you ever been there? I always thought the same, but got a chance to attend an IU vs MSU battle when both were ranked in the late Crean years. It was a very fun experience and I came away with an appreciation for the place. Fans are RIGHT on top of the court, and on the sidelines it’s very steep and it seems like it’s just a wall of people.

IU basketball isn’t the religion that their fans think it is, but Assembly Hall is actually really cool

Been there 4 times I believe. Atmosphere is fun sure. But visibility is horrendous and I'm 6'2.

Everything is tight, way way steep and too high. Just like Rupp

I agree. I’ve only been there as media, on the floor. The sidelines seem vertical from down there. It’s very cool.

Kind of like Mackey. Cool if you have good seats (excellent in Mackey's case). Cool if you are a player/staff/etc.

Not so cool for 80% of the audience.

Yeah it’s definitely not optimized for the viewing/comfort experience the way a pro arena is. But it’s a cool venue and experience.

Mackey is very underrated; I think it’s a great college game day atmosphere too.

I agree, just not a great place to watch a game. It is so steep that it gives me vertigo, and there are some seats where you can only see half the court. My IU friends tell me it is modeled after their football stadium (Memorial Stadium), which, I think, is a fabulous place to watch a football game. I guess it just doesn't translate well to basketball. I am surprised by your comment about Mackey, as I have always thought it was a pretty good venue for watching basketball. Perhaps I was just fortunate to have a good seat every time I was there.

Mackey is probably the best atmosphere I’ve seen in the B1G. Not that I’ve been in every arena, but was in Lansing 3 times.

But it’s also so damn uncomfortable. Other than the premium seats, that are not more than 5% of the arena, it’s all wooden benches. On top of that you are literally pressed shoulder to shoulder while seating. Really really tight

No, we lost a really close one at Assembly Hall that season. I remember one of their big dudes chucking up like a 28-footer with 1 on the shot clock in the final minute to ice it for them.

We blew them out at Assembly Hall in 09, won there again a couple years later with the Shurna/Juice/Crawford bunch, then won an ugly game there in CC’s first or second year that Demps took over late. So I think that’s 4 wins there now.

I attended the Final Four (Villanova v Georgetown) in '85-great seats during the GU games but sat in upper deck of Rupp for the other semi-final-shots seemed to curve 10-15 feet and you were surprised when they went in. Upper deck Rupp is suited only for people with uncorrected astigmatism, because their illness may help offset visual aberrations
