I have a buddy with a pretty excellent new band that went up against them in the battle of the bands at ricks. He said they sucked, yet they conveniently won the competition... which was a odd coincidence considering they were scheduled to play there (ricks) the following night.

I thought he might have been blowing smoke about them sucking.... apparently he was spot on

How can they come up with the name "Hobo Hippie." That name screams jam band. They clearly look like the typical redneck country version of metosexuals

getting GOOD bands to play at these things. Not long ago they were having people like Pat Green (dont like him but a lot of people do) and Robert Randolph. These are the type people that need to be playing these things. There are tons of very popular, very good bands that don't cost an arm and a leg.

My sophomore year for Bulldog Bash they had the hip hop group "112" who had had ONE hit like 3 years before that. Is that a joke? Then randomly they do somethingrealy goodlike Ziggy Marley and the Wailers.

beacuse music makers would rather divide the money up and get two average bands then spend it all on one. They woudl be better spending all the money on one great band then trying to please all crowds. Get one big name act and get local bands to open for free. Just say hey do you wanna pay for a thousand of people and they will say yes in a heart beat.

I think the last good year was when they got the Wailers and the main stage was right next to Bin 612 on university

I know it is students but are they nerds that everyone dismisses, a bunch of gang bangers, a bunch of former HS Band members? Seriously, to pick this lineup, these folks simply didn't have a clue!!

Stop! Stop wasting money on these retarded bands that make no sense and the no one wants to see. Instead of throwing this money away on ****** bands, donate it to the athletic program where someone might appreciate it.

I agree with previous posts. There has been decent bands that have played before but it seems to get worse and worse every year. If its not some 90's band trying to resurrect their career (Third Eye Blind) its a bunch of assclowns that play Nickelback covers. Its like whoever is in charge of this stuff is completely clueless. I have actually seen Amos Lee before but you don't book him for a street fest, you book him in a dark bar where you sit down and chill.

a slight weather issue (no forecast basis) and the whole god-awful event will be shuttled over to Rick's, like always. Isn't this event in the ampitheater anyway? How can you not put it in the cotton district?

Is it against the rules to have one concert in the District in the Spring and one in the Fall? I fail to see what one has to do with the other. Personally, I liked it when it was downtown.

I understand someone may not like cover bands much, or perhaps they don't like collective soul... Either way, I don't see how anyone could not despise "Trey Songz". That is some of the worst sh*t I've ever heard. I don't mind a cover band. A cover band will never be more than just a local type band, but I'd rather hear that "Shine" covered 30 times in a row than hear 1 more second of "Trey Songz". God d@mn that sh*t.

Were never gonna get a Dave Matthews, John Mayer, or Pearl Jam or something so we have to get mediocre bands or up-and-coming bands. I didn't go last year but I heard Darius Rucker was pretty good and heis pretty much the type of bands/singers were gonna get year in and year out.

And Amos Lee is pretty freaking good. I mean he's no Pat Green, which I know all you rednecks would love, but Amos Lee has several good songs that have been on the radio for years. The song yall put at the top happens to be the gayestone he sings.

Better than Ezra played in the Amphitheater in 2004, but not as part of any "music festival." That was the night of the Maine debacle. I'm not sure if they played there any time other than that. However, they have played Ricks on several occasions.

DitD was the Thursday before the Old Main Music Fest. The Wailers played at DitD and it was legit.

OMMF used to be held downtown. Sugar Land opened for Robert Randolph one year. It was awesome. For some reason (probably cost of setting up a stage and ****) it was moved onto the ampitheatre a few years ago.

One weekend all the fraternities on campus pooled money to have Better Than Ezra at the ampitheatre instead of each having a seperate band.

Unfortunately, despite liking that idea a lot, I was not in attendance because I had just watched us lose to Maine, and all ability to enjoy anything had been temporarily sucked out of me.

I personally don't care for his music, but there will be an assload of girls at his concert, and I don't consider that a bad thing.

Who wants Dave Matthews and John Mayer anyways? I can think of plenty of bands that would be great and not be too expensive. The problem is the lack of creativity in the Music Makers, or whoeverselects who plays theseevents. Stop watching MTV andput down your your NOW94 cd, andbringthe FUNK backto Vegas!

the House of Blues in New Orleans. I thought he put on a good show. Yes, there were lots of hot girls there as well. He does have a good voice and has a good laid-back soul pop thing going. I think Music Makers did a good job of getting Amos. Never heard of the two other acts though?

Is the type of band that needs to be at the Old Main festival!! At least people have heard of them and know 90%+ of their songs.

Amos Lee is someone i would be thrilled to see in a coffee-house setting. However, he is probably the last person I could care to see as a headliner at an outdoor music festival. His music is solely based around his vocals and the other instruments are damn near just a formality. His music is good (IMO) but is nowhere near being described as "Fun" which is the 17ing key to live music needed/expected for an event such as this.

The girl factor is always a plus in any situation. But, that is what "ladies night" at various bars is for, not a headliner for an outdoor music festival. If I can get my foot in the door early with a good-looking lady then I will be ecstatic about Amos Lee playing as his music could potentially sling me an assist for a slam-dunk (keeping it sports related bitches!).

Give me a band that is loud, features other instruments (at least a good lead guitar), and causes, at the minimum, involuntary pelvic gyrations. Poor, poor choice of a co-headliner in my opinion. I'm starting to think the people at Music Makers rarely listen to live music. Robert Randolph for instance has pretty good studio music, but his live performances are unbelievable.

If all you care about is the girl-factor, then I could save everybody a lot of money and hook up my ipod and put "Angel Eyes" by the Jeff Healey Band on endless repeat.

**Disclaimer: My thoughts on Amos Lee are exclusively limited to the 6 or so songs I have on my computer. I have zero knowledge of his live performances, for all I know he could have fan-damn-tastic live performances but I don't see it based on his studio music.

do you listen to live music? If I want to lay semi-recumbent on a blanket, hold hands, and have outlandish moments of PDA, then Amos Lee is a grand-slam selection.

But I sir, have two wrinkly, hairy testicles... but testicles nonetheless. Which means I want to have some preposterously exaggerated fist-pumping fun.

Randolph, Moe, and the Wailers were all excellent selections for past events. Even Gavin Degraw (sp?), Country Hootie, and Better Than Ezra have been good selections from what I have been told.

an outdoor music festival, and would be someone I would rather hear as well at Thaila Mara Hall in Jackson in a sit down theatre. But I think it funny on this board hows someare mad because we didnt get John Mayeror Dave Matthews. I would classify Dave Matthews and John Mayer in the exact same category as Amos Lee (just not quite as famous yet). It is adult contemporary softrock that the chicks dig (you see them at John Mayer and Dave Matthews too) . Dave Matthews used to be very soft and acoustical (especially the Under the Table and Dreaming years) until his crowds got bigger and he had to amp up his sound to fit the venues he was playing (arenas).
