The Black Keys, Modest Mouse, Wilco, Flaming Lips, Gov't Mule, My Morning Jacket ( they are probably too big now), and etc would be awesome. However, Music Makers appears determined to ensure that Starkville maintains its image as a town devoid of good music. If they don't end up getting some ridiculously generic band, they will attempt to appease "all" groups and end up with two ****** acts.

I don't have a problem with Amos Lee, but he isn't someone I want to see in an outdoor setting. Like VirgilCain said, he is someone who you would want to see in a quieter setting.

First off, I am a neither a big fan of DMB nor John Mayer, but there is no way they fall into the same category as Amos Lee.

When was Dave soft and "acoustical." Are you referring to Dave and Tim Reynolds "Live at Luther College" album?? because he had already released 3-4 studio albums before that release (5 years after they released "Recently"). Also, Dave and Tim Reynolds showed some pretty serious and experimental acoustic guitar prowess in that album. I don't think Amos Lee even strums his guitar, just picks at it. Next, "Under the Table and Dreaming" had nothing acoustic about it. It was full of trumpets, saxophones, fiddles, slappin' bass and hard drums... along with dave's unique acoustic guitar style that is no way "soft." Finally, DMB is a live band that happened to translate very well into studio recordings. Their live performances are basically a 1-2 minute intro to the specific song then an extended, intense jam session that barely resembles the studio version of the song.

I'll give you a little credit with comparing Amos to John Mayer....John Mayer of a DECADE ago. John Mayer was exclusively acoustic back then (i think) and I was still in highschool. But the last couple years John Mayer has become a rock/rhythm and blues guitarist. Don't believe me check the video... yes that's the same guy that wrote "Your body is a wonderland"

or ' Sattellite'isnt soft? Please ...Do you have any musical knowledge?

yes.. DMB has much better musicanship, but for every Dave Matthews song that has intros and jams there is another with soft love ballads . Look at Amos Lee's tour dates this summer buddy :

http://amoslee.com/shows/

He is opening for Dave Matthews Band for 4 dates this summer. Do you think this is coincidence ? or do you think they appeal to the same genre?

I can't believe i have to point out to you all the glaring holes in your arguments

#1. Every great rock band has slow songs... go ahead, think about it, try and stump yourself.

#2. You listed 4 slow songs as if they were from the same album. In actuality, those 4 songs were scattered over 2 albums totaling at least 24 songs. So your 1:1 ratio is more like 5:1. Next, only one of those songs was even commercially successful. The others aren't even worth listening to (one is about a 17in backyard TV antenna).

#3. Finally I believe you saved your dumbest **** for your last sentence. This isn't some themed music festival, like country or hip/hop, that you are talking about. This is a DMB concert. What does DMB want to do the most?.....SELL AS MANY TICKETS AS POSSIBLE! how can they sell more tickets outside their own genre/fanbase?....SIGN AN ARTIST WITH A DIFFERENT FANBASE. how did you not immediately get that?

Thats why Amos Lee is opening for a 17-ing rapper at this event (surely you don't think they are in the same genre), because the sponsors of the event want to appeal to as many different people as possible.

Please don't respond... I don't like having to explain common sense to people

take minute, step away from the computer and read a little.<div>
</div><div>Amos Lee will bring in more cut than you realize. Not to mention the guy is a helluvaperformerlive. Sorry we didn't get Van Halen, Poison or Nickleback to make you happy. NoactuallyI am not sorry. Just sit at home by yourself with your computer and ***** about the "soft rock bands that chicks dig" while you chatroulette and drink wine coolers. Less creepers like you there the better.</div>

rumor was when robert randolph played and the stage was by mugshots facing down main st. ]dan camp came into office he said the bars made to much money off this. so he pushed the stage more down across from the state theatre but had it facing towards reeds and put a big screen up so if you were downtown you could not see the concert. So people refused to pay the 15 dollars to see acts when they could not drink. So then it moved back to campus when the crowds dropped.

look like an idiot.

Why the hell are you comparing a festival to a regular concert? Outdoor city festivals such as Memphis in May, City Stages, Jubilee Jam, NO Jazzfest do book as many as diverse acts as possible to sell tickets. At regular concerts opening acts always fall into the same category as the feature act. The last two concerts I went to were Kenny Chesney (who the opeing acts were Lady Antellbellum and Miranda Lambert ) and Widespread Panic (who the opeing act was the Allman Brothers) . You are a complete moron for comparing a festival to a concert. Please quit posting
