This is sad enough to cause me to create another topic. Fed Ex buys at least 15,000 season tickets for Memphis football so it would be possible for the University to report these numbers instead of 4,117. I think this is Memphis State's first shot at getting rid of Tommy West.

SWAC schools can draw bigger crowds.

Don't all D1-A schools have a minimum average attendance requirement? I thought it was something around 17,000.

But it's an average attendance minimum over a season and you have to fall below it something like 3 times in 5 years to get booted down. I'm not aware of any I-A school ever being booted down to I-AA for not meeting the minimum attendance.

Why would anyone sit in the end zone if there are only 4,000 at the game? I'm sorry, but I think I would upgrade my seats.

had a separate attendance requirement and booted Temple out because of it. That's the only similar thing I can remember happening.

we would have to also have 0-12 teams at least two years in a row and i still think we have 10K at the game

edit: some of us can't walk away from that much pain and suffering

If schools got audited on attendance numbers, I'm sure there would be a few smaller schools that would have already been booted down.

Tulane vs Houston game a couple of weeks ago in the Superdome announced: 22,891. Actual attendance was around 3,900.

after I slaughted a half-seafood platter at Deanie's and was still standing, I was standing in line waiting for them to open the doors to the Superdome, and one of their fans told me- "Man, we're going to have a huge crowd today. This will probably be the biggest of the year".

Playing them was more like a mini-bowl trip rather then a road game. Not complaining at all about that.

During the local news Tulane segments, they show clips from the games where there are literally no fans in the frame, just empty seats.

It's not all that much different than when we reported 17,000 or whatever it was for NW State in Orgeron's last year.

We had sold a lot more season tickets than that, and we could've reported tickets sold, but we reported the actual number, probably as part of our justification for getting rid of him.

I think the 4117 is Memphis doing the same, and West doesn't care. He's going to retire soon anyway. Might as well get a little buy out to walk away with.

play Tulane every year. New Orleans is a hell of a lot better road trip and we may on occasion luck up and have the Saints playing in the Dome on Sunday!

did buy out the last six games of their contract with them, so in theory, they have an opening.
