I’m already on record as saying that I don’t think our RB room is anywhere close to as good as T&L thinks it is, so there’s that.

But to answer the question, 7-5 I guess?

3-9. Or maybe some others have higher expectations for our RB than I do. I think the transfers rushing stats are plastic stats vs inferior competition. He won't be breaking off a dozen 20+ yard runs against SEC defenses. And he only averaged about 10 carries per game even at South Alabama.

Yeah, and a couple other thoughts come to mind with this group

1) I don’t know what anybody else’s roster looks like, but if we were to poll the other SEC teams and ask them if they’d trade their RB room for ours, does anyone honestly think that we’d find more than 3-4 takers?

2) If we were to look through the list of the last 25 years of MSU RB rooms, would this group even make the top 10? Top 15?

Now I’m sure some will rush over to ask how I can make these statements when we’ve seen so little out of some of these guys, but that’s the exact problem. A RB stable of one decent returning starter and a bunch of unproven, mid-tier guys isn’t an elite room. Not by the SEC’s standards

Are you thinking our RB group is worse on the whole than every other position group, therefore dragging our record down to 3-9? Or are you saying you expect worse than 3-9 right now?

Damn Pat, here I thought I was getting negative in my advancing age lol

I like our RB group ok. But they’re not much more than average if that. And OL won’t be good at all, so it’s going to be tough for them.

Why do you think our OL won’t be good? I’m curious on why you think this way
Booth was a G5 back and played well for us last year

Actually, if the other position groups were thought of that highly we'd be in good shape. Right now it's 8 in the box to defend against us. Still 3-9.

Well Booth started coming on at the end of the year. Our running game was improving be that OL gelling or backs improving. Who knows about Fluff but I dont expect much from him honestly. Booth should pick up where he left off and Gayten should be ready to start performing and he is fast af plus Seth Davis might be good to go. If he has confidence in his wheels he might be a big addition.

I think that's a pretty good analysis of the RB situation.

Thank you sir. If we cant establish a running game we won't be improved offensively. Personally I would start Work, Lewis and Lockhart on the OL. Hard to get a line to "gel" when it's different guys every year. Keenum and Reese would be the other 2.

I'd say 7-5.

But the key word there is "expectations." I can't remember the last time any position group has lived up to expectations on the football field.

Honestly, if every position group was on par with our RB group, with this schedule I think we're still no better than 5-7. And I actually do like our RB group ok. Nobody's going to make all SEC or anything, but we've got some decent players & experience there.

If every position group was on par with what our RB group should be on paper, that puts us on par (at least) with UT, Mizzou, Ole Miss, and probably A&M and it guarantees we would beat ASU.

Maybe 5-7…

We still have a tough schedule…

And my expectations of the RB room aren’t great because of reasons previously mentioned (games are decided by line play) as well as I think QBs are much more important…
