Little basketball talk....

I know we are surrounded with talk by the upcoming football season, but I was just discussing some of the kids that we might be getting over the next couple of years with a buddy of mine. According to ESPN's top 60 recruits, there are quite a few kids looking at Mississippi State, or at least they've shown a little interest. I've heard some talk among players around campus and ones that I have classes with. I think we are headed in the right direction. It will hurt to lose Varnado and Barry, but if we can pick up some strong kids, and with the addition of Sidney, lord willing he doesn't pack up and leave, hopefully we won't dissapoint.

2010 looks a little light, but there is a ton of talent coming out of the south for 2011.

-Johnny O'Bryant (6'9" 225lbs., C) of Cleveland, Miss., East Side High School looks like he'd be a huge asset to MSU. He's ranked 6th and is looking at Miss. St., Ole Miss, Memphis, Arkansas and Kansas.

-LaQuinton Ross- (6'8" 210lbs., SF) of Life Center Academy in Jackson, Miss. Ranked 14th and considering Miss. State, Texas, Memphis, Syracuse and Florida

-Rodney Hood (6'8" 195lbs., SF) of Meridian High School in Meridian, Miss. Wonder if Osby is friends with him? Ranked 46th on ESPN. Impressive video. Florida, Florida State, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Miss. State.

-Tyler Adams (6'8" 260lbs., C) of Brandon, Miss. would be another strong player if he doesn't ultimately decide to be a Blue Devil.

Looks like we have lots of potential, but it's just going to be hard to pull top players away from schools like Syracuse, Texas, Georgia Tech and other schools that Starkville really just can't compete with. If we can get the kids that actually want to stand out and play basketball, I think we have a good chance to get some of these kids. We should have a very competative program, and if we can pull a better recruiting class than we did last year, we might just have a decent shot at a great season.

Any other thoughts or players to add to my short, attempt at a list?

I've heard that MSU is doing real well with Smith.

I still think that MSU gets Tyler Adams from Brandon. I know the consensus on this board is to be negative, but I'm still hearing that he's MSU's to loose. The family will not be able to make it to his games in Durham. That is a big deal to them.

50/50 on O'Bryant. He'll either go to a big program out of state or stay in state at MSU. Ole Miss is a little bit of a factor, but I don't think he'll choose them. I know that there will be some Rebel fans to chime in but when is the last time that MSU missed on a Mississippi recruit that they REALLY wanted?

75% on Hood. His dad played at MSU and his family wants to watch him play every game. (see Adams above)

well hood plays at meridian and osby at ne lauderdale but im sure they both know each other. family has great genes dad played here, sister at clemson and older brother at tenn chat. next year recruiting is either going to kill our program or keep us winning. we will have 5 scholarships to give with elgin, kodi, ravern, phil, and riley graduating and then add possibly sidney going pro and who knows with dee. So at worst we could loose 7 players. Hope we can pull some big name players cause a line-up of

C- Lewis
PF-Osby
SF-Smith
SG-Bryant
PG- Twany maybe Dee

does not win many games

Too bad March madness their freshman year is in 2012.

End of 2011: Undefeated/1 loss basketball team ranked in the top 5, baseball looking better and possibly a shot at Omaha, and football at #2 in the BCS standings awaiting the NC game against Ohio State.

Then the world ends, NYD 2012.

WE ARE!

It sounds like you can cross off Q. Ross - according to BDJ, we aren't high on him for some reason or another.

I think we'll get Smith and Adams, and I would be thrilled with any additional combination of Hood, O'Bryant, Mychal Ammons (Vicksburg),LeAntwan Luckett (Ridgeland), or Daniel Grieves (St. Patrick).

Which really sucks. Couldn't the world wait until AFTER Christmas to end? Damn! Well I know one guy who's not going to waste time buying presents that year.

Deville Smith - he is in line totake over for Dee Bost - we are telling him this
Tyler Adams - we have worked harder than anyone to get him. The offer from Duke scares me, but I still think he stays close to home
Rodney Hood -from Meridian. lives a little over a hour away. Dad played at MSU
Mychal Ammons - we seem to be the only ones really recruiting him? Is something wrong with his grades ?

LaQuinton Ross' move to New Jersey makes me believe he will be signing with Syracuse . Johnny O'Bryant will go somewhere else . I calling either Memphis or Kansas. The kid from Okalona looks to be headed to Ole Miss. LaAntwan Luckett has looks have been offered by us , USM , and Arkansas

in Ammons by us or visa versa. don't know why.

If we get to pick 5, it would be (in no particular order): Hood, Adams, O'Bryant, Luckett, Smith, Hood
