I know we are surrounded with talk by the upcoming football season, but I was just discussing some of the kids that we might be getting over the next couple of years with a buddy of mine. According to ESPN's top 60 recruits, there are quite a few kids looking at Mississippi State, or at least they've shown a little interest. I've heard some talk among players around campus and ones that I have classes with. I think we are headed in the right direction. It will hurt to lose Varnado and Barry, but if we can pick up some strong kids, and with the addition of Sidney, lord willing he doesn't pack up and leave, hopefully we won't dissapoint.
2010 looks a little light, but there is a ton of talent coming out of the south for 2011.
-Johnny O'Bryant (6'9" 225lbs., C) of Cleveland, Miss., East Side High School looks like he'd be a huge asset to MSU. He's ranked 6th and is looking at Miss. St., Ole Miss, Memphis, Arkansas and Kansas.
-LaQuinton Ross- (6'8" 210lbs., SF) of Life Center Academy in Jackson, Miss. Ranked 14th and considering Miss. State, Texas, Memphis, Syracuse and Florida
-Rodney Hood (6'8" 195lbs., SF) of Meridian High School in Meridian, Miss. Wonder if Osby is friends with him? Ranked 46th on ESPN. Impressive video. Florida, Florida State, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Miss. State.
-Tyler Adams (6'8" 260lbs., C) of Brandon, Miss. would be another strong player if he doesn't ultimately decide to be a Blue Devil.
Looks like we have lots of potential, but it's just going to be hard to pull top players away from schools like Syracuse, Texas, Georgia Tech and other schools that Starkville really just can't compete with. If we can get the kids that actually want to stand out and play basketball, I think we have a good chance to get some of these kids. We should have a very competative program, and if we can pull a better recruiting class than we did last year, we might just have a decent shot at a great season.
Any other thoughts or players to add to my short, attempt at a list?
