I woke up thinking this AM of how tired I am of his schtick. I`m ready for some solid football instead of all of the talk and cute ****. I`ll go one farther and be one of the first say it wouldn`t turn my world upside down if he left because I think he`s already topped out here.

Spot on.

I think we'd lose a recruit or two, but I long for hard-nosed football on the Jackie era (early part). All this glitz and smack talk would bother anyone if we could back it up. We're trying be the Oregon of the south, but we don't have the studs to be the Ducks, we're just the Sucks.

If Dan were conjoled to be the OC of a big time program, I don't think I'd cry one bit. I'd thank him, wish him good luck and let us look for someone who could bring back the rock-ribbed type of football we used to have.

The whole freaking world sees there`s a problem with Mullen`s program why shouldn`t we. As far as your petty name calling all you`ve done is stereotype yourself. Loser

Home 17ing run.

Time for less gum flapping about championships and fewer hashtags and more emphasis on the damn game.

Agree, not about the throat slitting part, but they are idiots. Let's go back to our old style of football? Seriously?

Some of you need to separate coaching from marketing.

I have never thought much of Mullen as an on field coach, but he puts a (generally) entertaining product on the field, and has done more to unite the MSU fan base and sell tickets than any head coach that has come before him -- including Sherrill. And what has he really done to create unrealistic expectations in the fans, other than win games? I know he talks about being a champion, and I think its silly that refers to the UMiss game as a "championship", but that's just his attempt to create a mindset of winning. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I get it.

But the marketing gimmicks are not created by Mullen. Those are all on Stricklin and his gang, and for the most part I think they have worked pretty well. Granted, I at least hope that they run the uniform and gameday ideas past Mullen first just to see if he objects, but why would he even care about all the Snowbowl hype they did? I thought memorializing a bowl game from 12 years ago was dumb, but I serioulsy doubt it had any effect at all on the performance of the team. I just don't see how the players could have even cared about that stuff.

Let the marketing guys do their marketing unless it somehow interferes with the team. These "gimmicks" are not designed to try to win games, they are strictly for the fans.

So the team built a 7-0 record playing soft competition. Mullen didn't make out the schedule, and he certainly did not cause Auburn, Tennesee and even Kentucky to field their worst teams in decades. He also wasn't the one coming on message boards and claiming that they were playing a "vanilla" defense that would be much more stout against SEC competition (and any of you who believed that garbage are idiots). He won the games, and now his team has been exposed for 2 games as not nearly as good as some people thought.

Mullen has a long way to go, and perhaps he is just now coming to grips with the massive inertia that is MSU sports. The team played worse in these last two games than I expected, and surely Mullen deserves a lot of the blame for that, but I just never thought our defense was capable of winning either game anyway.

I don't necessarily think we lose recruits but it is going to be hard to get Rumph and Cox if we keep putting this product on the field. I think its a wake up call for Stricklin to schedule somebody worth the paycheck like a team out of the Big Ten or Pac 12.

Railin J your posts have the depth of insight of a high school sophmore. Stay off the roids!

1. 7 wins aint jack. What is 7 wins when your record is 7-5? 4 wins againt OOC opponents and 3 against winless conf opponents? In the SEC this year 10-2 will put you about 6th in the conference. Good luck competing for championships.

2. Mullin outside of beating a 22 Florida and unranked Georgia in 2010 is a .500 coach. He has plenty of flops in big games where he was near an upset. LSU 09, Auburn 10, Auburn 11, SC 11.
*Even Croom could beat Florida on a down year

3. In Jackies hayday we had top 5 defenses. We had a top 15 defense on paper this year. Clearly mishandled. Lame excuses of people don't know the playbook only go so far. We had relaible special teams also.

I definitely think we lose a couple recruits over the pitiful product we have fielded the last 2 weeks.. Hell kailo's mom was at the 17'n bears practice last week.. The horrible schemes and general lack of effort on both sides of the ball are killing us.. Now is the time to See what mullen and his staff are made of

Padding and winning the front end of your schedule as we did this year and then start getting your *** kicked when you get to the competitive games is...... well.......gimmicky.

The OP that brought "old school" or whatever term was referring to Jackie`s early defenses as he said in his post. I think we can all agree they were a tad better than what we have now.

Yeah, but that's the way you build a program, or so I have been told. That and ...well, more time
