The girl was running the New York Times was fired because she wanted equal pay to what her predecessor had. I don't understand how a girl can keep a clean house, run a major Newspaper, AND expect the same pay as a guy who runs a paper full time.

Good to know that the national newspaper of record, the icon of Liberal thought, The New York Times, has the same opinions and attitudes towards girls that I do. I might get a subscription.

Can`t wait to see your opinions show up in the "comments" section after some of their absolutely unbiased columns. I`m sure you`ll get a bunch of thumbs ups.

1- that is no girl. I catch hell when I refer to women 35 and under as 'girl' in conversations with other women- but even I couldn't call her a girl.

2- the character you play on here has become stale. Its the same shtick. Even Archie Bunker showed progress of his simple views. At least have your message board character show a hint of progress here or there. Once every couple months perhaps.

3- Abramson was at the paper for less time. And depending on her previous experience and skills, her pay should be equal in that it is decided based on merit just like everyone else's. Pay doesn't have to be the same amount to be equal. Pay just has to be based on the same parameters to be equal.

4- I will never understand people who knowingly pay different amounts to equal experience and skills based on gender or race. It is just such a stupid thing to do in my mind. There is no justification for it. I would never feel good knowing that I was screwing over someone and I know for sure that I would not be able to see them as an equal. The argument can be made that the person getting paid less doesn't have to work for what they are being paid or that they value their skills and work at the rate I am paying them so therefore everything should be OK. But that is also an absurd argument as just because someone is willing to work for a certain wage doesn't mean that is all they deserve based on productivity.

All these people pushing for equality and wanting to be treated the same...

It's really infringing upon my rights as a straight, white, christian male to be socially, economically, and spiritually superior to them. The nerve!

You might want to just stop. Like the other poster said, it's just not funny anymore. Stick to complaining about the Cowboys.

Make or female, I have no sympathy for people in this situation. You agreed to your pay when you took the job. I deal with this often and have been in the same situation. Should have not accepted the job in the first place if you don't feel like it's fair.

agreed - she agreed to the salary. Plus the newspaper business isn't so great these days. They are trying to save money wherever they can also I assume.

What do you expect from the right wing t-bagging bastards at the NYT ?
I hope the NYT gets hammered over paying the woman less. At one time, I would have said it's ok to pay people differently based on different experience, even if sometimes that involves paying women less. For example, I wouldn't have seen anything wrong with hiring somebody at a lower salary than the person they're replacing, especially if the person they were replacing had been there a long time. I would have expected to pay more as the new person spent time in the job, increasing their value. But the NYT has convinced me that I only thought that way because I was a misogynist and/or racist, and there are no possible justifications for paying different employees different wages if their job titles sound similar, even if two individuals sharing a similar job title might put in different hours, have different skills and abilities, and/or have different levels of experience. That can't possibly be an explanation for the disparity and it can only be the result of a war on women.

of course it's funny

I know how you Lefty Regressives love irony, and Jill the Jill getting fired is loaded with it- the NYT being a bastion of all the tenets of liberalism (equal pay for equal work), girl not getting paid as much as the man who preceded her. The final irony is that she was replaced by an African-American Man. Jill wrote a particularily nasty bit of slander about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas a few years back, and you have to admit tha Karma's a *****.

Yeah, you're right. She should go work for Fox News. I'm sure they pay all their hosts "fairly."

Let me guess.. You're a white, Christian male that hates Obama and thinks he's being persecuted. Congrats! You have the same views as my 88 year old grandmother.
