Don't want to start a pissing match that gets this locked, but everyone needs to go vote today. Without even mentioning names, I think all of you are aware that one candidate has supported MSU more than any politician in history while the other runs his campaign on shutting down funding to Mississippi's research universities. This is going to be close, so everyone needs to go vote and take some people with you.

I'm almost to the point I don't even want to vote. This whole race has been an embarrassment to the state - like a couple of highschool girls fighting. I swear if either candidate had not run all the negative ads he'd have gotten my vote at 7 o'clock this morning. And the ads give the impression that these guys think I've got an IQ of about 70.

I may stop by on the way home and vote for TC... but I'm not sure I want to support either of these guys.

I'm with you... This campaign has been a total shitshow. I guess the name of the game is to throw your opponents under the bus as much as possible during a :30 second spot, then just say "candidate X, Right for Mississippi" or some **** at the end and that's the only thing you say about yourself. It's absolutely stupid.

I'm going to secure the borders and defend the constitution! That's not a platform, that's a soundbite. One candidate will do nothing but make the state look even dumber

The targeted adds Im getting on websites are horrible.

Im so sick of "THAD COCHRAN AND HARRY REID: BEST FRIENDS" and "CAUGHT ON VIDEO: THAD COCHRAN AND OBAMA" and "STAND WITH SARAH PALIN!"

I'm not even living in Mississippi. I'm also not a moron.

You'd be surprised how many morons are eating that **** up.

I saw on FB that palin was in miss endorsing someone. Does a sarah palin endorsement make people vote for a candidate? Id assume it would do the opposite?

Not at jab at either party because they are both awful. I'm just saying.

For what?

Basically ex employees. He is going after any that are trying to speak out against him and throwing his weight around to make sure they keep their traps shut.

I just glanced at the article. I didnt read the whole thing. The article alluded to him not being exactly who he says he is and using christianity to suck people in. ex employees were starting to bring it to light and he is going johnny cochran on them.

I take any article or news report with a grain of salt. There are always 2 sides to a story.

He pulled a loaded gun in a company meeting about gossip

There are lots of articles about this, apparently it's not much of a secret. Here's one, I'm sure this is about 60% accurate, and some is exaggerated, but I think the pattern is obvious. His stuff works for the most part, even if you ignore the religious part and just focus on the financial, though the last couple of years he's started talking much more about politics than just money.

His recipe for savings works. The problem is, it is like adding 2 plus 2. Any non moron already knows that. If you have to call in to know if you can afford a bass boat and you make 20k, well.

It is simple common sense. I mean, Im glad if people get out of debt by practicing what he says but damn, a 10 year old already knows what he is about to tell them.

I voted for Thomas Carey because I haven't seen him on my television at all, have seen no promoted tweets or Facebook posts from him, nor heard any slanderous accusations about any other candidates from him. I cannot in good conscience vote for either Senator Cochran or Senator McDaniel based on how they have campaigned so long as there is a third choice.

Yea, it's pretty obvious he's highly protective of his image. He's a businessman. You don't rack up millions of dollars doing this kind of stuff being a nice guy.

I had no idea he brought a loaded fun to a company meeting, though.... That's really stupid.

His show is fascinating from an "I can't look away from this trainwreck" factor. Like the "I gave my 22 year old daughter a credit card the day she got out of rehab" and INCREDIBLY things took a bad turn-type stories.

Oh, and if you think nasty politics is bad there, try watching Ohio TV stations during a presidential election. It's absurd.

Yea, you are right about that. But sometimes, the people who call into his show really have no clue about managing money or anything at all, really. Any decent financial advisor is going to more than likely promote the debt snowball and the use of an emergency fund because it works. Hell, I've used it and it works. I don't think he's got anything proprietary in the methods he promotes, he's just someone many people identify with. And he has gotten more and more political throughout the years, definitely.

None of this comes as a surprise, though.

Turn out is apparently really, really low right now.

Not sure which one that favors. That goes for the Palazzo/Taylor race as well. And hey, if you want a really short line and somebody to vote for that hasn't blown up your TV and phone... Childers is chilling out on the Democratic primary ballot. I feel like I can say that because there's not much doubt about how I voted. Carry on Republican primary-ers. It has the potential to be an interesting day. Just make sure one of them gets over 50%. I can't handle a run off.

If you're tired of both of their ********, vote for someone else entirely in November.

If McDaniel wins I'm probably going to vote for Childers. I know it's probably a waste of time but I can't stomach voting for the snake in the grass.

The worst part about today is...

I forgot to restock the booze yesterday. Can't have people getting all liquored up and voting can we? Because that's exactly what I wish I could do after a few cocktails... go do some voting.

I always

His stuff works for the most part

got a kick out of the people that would call in and talk about being $200,000+ in debt working a job that pays $30,000/year, and then ask if he (Dave) thought it was a good idea for them to buy a new $80,000 Mercedes, etc.

Doesn't really take a financial genius to help some of these morons out.

He's all shades of purple in reality..

and probably a lot closer to where most Republican voters stand than McDaniel. He actually voted against the ACA.

A day when we probably need it most.

First to get through it. Then to celebrate it being over.

Same here. While we are on this, would a someone explain the Open Primary...

concept...by that I mean why we have them?

If someone votes Republican in the primary, can they vote for the Democratic candiate in the General?

I'm not sure how old the law is, but in the 19th century it was common for political parties to give away booze to get out the vote. I think the original intent was to do away with that sort of thing.

As I understand it, only beer sales can be restricted, and it is a jurisdiction by jurisdiction basis.

You don't have to register as a certain party member...

So, you can vote in whatever primary you want. However, and I'm not exactly sure about this, since I voted in the Democratic Primary, if there is a Republican runoff... I can't vote in it. You can vote for whoever you want to in any general election no matter what primary you voted in.

I will be checking this out on the way home then.

I definitely had to leave beer at the checkout counter in Kroger the night Phil got elected.

sure you can.

Can alcoholic beverages be sold on election day?
Sales of alcoholic beverages are not limited or restricted on election days. Local governments cannot restrict the sale of alcoholic beverages by package stores or on-premises ABC permittees on election days. Beer sales on election days may be restricted by a local ordinance.

I am much happier now.

I just figured, no beer meant no liquor. Was working as well as living in Rankin for most elections, so the liquor issue never presented itself.
