For all the strides Mullen has made, it is still easy to forget how much talent Sherrill had at times. Amazing. We still aren't close to that.

Maybe Bumphis can rise to this level.

when the refs called back back to back 15 yd ganes up the middle against us? up the middle runs and they called holding against us?.. when the game was already over and we were just trying to shove it up their *** deeper?

well moulds was on the sidelines and he tossed his sweat band across the fence and I was about 30 yrs old and I shoved a 12 year old kid to grab the prize...

I won.. the 12 year old kid was shocked and rightfully pissed.. but I still have the sweat band to this day....

I'm still glad I did it...

Robert Hicks and Greg Favors were red shirt freshman who later played in the big time. 94 team was Sherill's most "talented."
I dare say more than all the others including 99' team.

Eric Moulds is still my all time favorite state player hands down! He led the country that year in kickoff return average. Why we haven't given him more recognition to this day I have no idea. Maybe retiring his number may be much to some people but I would love to see it. He certainly deserves it. He is one of the more talented SEC players that we have had the pleasure to watch over the years (Walt Harris also). <div>
</div><div>I was at the arkansas game the week before and remember his performance on that rainy day. It was absolutely amazing! Although that catch in the end zone against bama was one of the greatest catches I have ever seen in person! I came back the next week for the bama game and still to this day have not gotten over that loss. I made the trip home from stark to laurel with my friend and his family and did not say one word the entire way. My friends parents thought i took the loss a little too hard. I remember it being 4th and long with 6 minutes left and if we stop that we have a good chance of winning and would have a good shot of getting to the SEC championship game. Of course we don't stop them and Jay Barker brings them all the way down the field to win. I was sitting on the west side 20 rows up and and as soon as the game ended crimson and white confetti comes pouring on top of us from the upper deck above. One of the most depressing moments I have experienced as a state fan. That 94 team in my mind was one of the best we have ever had. They should have gone to Atlanta!</div>

that preceded the TE touchdown had to be one of the great catches of all time. Unfortunately in the days pre-HD, pre-cameras from every angle. Seems like it was a mid-morning JP game so maybe it should be "cameras" to boot.

Yep, if that pass was directed at anyone else, we don't convert. Moulds had to use every bit of his verticle to pull down that pass. Which legend has it, Moulds verticle was about "48. Anyone who saw/remembers that play, would believe it.

Yep, it was a JP game. Also, I don't want to get off subject but I believe that game was Peyton Mannings debut as a college player.

I was in the student section. So, the two plays happened right in front us. When Taite threw that ball up, there was a collective "Oh sh**" Then a gasp of unbelief. Then a roar of cheers.

I wanted State to beat them very badly that night. I remember the guide to the SEC Championship Game bouchers inside the programs. There was so much excitement only to have the rug pulled out from under us.....again by Bama. I told my date that night. If we did not beat Bama at home, with this crowd, and this talent, we would never beat them. Then low and behold 96-98. But......that was a crushing defeat that night.
