Looking ahead, is it better if UT wins the next two?

Whatever makes it easiest to beat them......

I would think losing to Georgia would deflate Tennessee and the team may start to quit.

We are going to get 2 guaranteed shots to knock off ranked opponents this year. I'll take wins in the other games.

I tend to agree, but LSU and Bama will realistically be miracle wins. Would be nice to quit reading about Dan still not have beaten a ranked opponent.

Would you rather they come to Vegas ranked or as an early season fluke?

I would like to see them lose. I don't think UT is mentally tough enough to compete for an Easyern division title. I think another lose or two will crack that team.

I'd rather them win so that I can watch their hopes and dreams dashed by little ol MSU.

Second that. We are not vying for a national title this year (even if we were to go undefeated) so our SOS is irrelevant. I dare say all we are trying to do is play our way into as good a bowl as possible and that takes as many W's as possible to finish as high as we can in the SEC. I don't want any player from any team to be injured, but if one is going to get hurt it might as well be before they play us. I will also take a demoralized team over one thinking they have something to play for any day of the week.

Florida was ranked when we beat them and at the end of the season. In 2009, Ole Miss was ranked when we beat them, but not at the end of the year.

Don't get me wrong...I would love for us to be in the title game and think we would deserve it but here is why I am saying we would not be...and it does involve some black helicopter stuff. Right now we are 25% into the season and ranked #23. By the time we hit our halfway point and still undefeated I would say no higher than #16 barring some major upsets in the teams above us. If we beat Alabama and LSU and run the table I think we more than likely would be a top 5 team. Here is where the black helicopters come in. It is a well known fact that outside our conference the SEC is HATED by the rest of the country. They are sick and tired of the national title going to an SEC game for the last 6 years and they were probably borderline suicidal that last year it was between two SEC teams. With that in mind, everybody else is going to do everythign in their power to keep an SEC team out of the game this year. And if the team poised to represent the conference this year is State you can rest assured that every back room deal and shady practice that can be done will be done to keep us out. They would try to justify it by saying "they just got lucky...you know they wouldn't bring near the fans and money that (insert another team) would...do you really think that Mississippi State is one of the top two teams in the country?...the SEC must be down if MSU can run the table" and so on. That is what I am basing it on. To my last point I have already seen articles on Yahoo and other places saying the SEC is not as strong this year as in the past. They are already trying to set the table to try and mae sure a SEC team is not there...or at most just one team.

Dude, you're too paranoid. There is no way an SEC team that beats the #1 team and #2 team ON THE ROAD would be left out. But this debate is moot anyways.. we will lose to Bama and LSU

You can call me paranoid and you may well be right. Having been an MSU fan since I was old enough to know what football was I have seen us get screwed out of bowls we were deserving of in the past for various reasons and have to settle for lesser bowls. I just see it happening again should that come to be. No reason to think otherwise until the streak ends. Like you, I think the odds of us beating LSU and Alabama both on the road is probably more than we can do this year...although is LSU is losing people left and right and if that keeps up it is only a matter of time before that catches up with them. I think they have lost 12 people so far this season. We always play Alabama close but somehow they always seem to come out ahead by the final gun.

Honestly if the rest of the country wanted to shut the sec up about winning national titles they would probably just let us in assuming whatever team we played would beat the dog **** out of us because we are mississippi state and dont garner a lot of respect nationally that way they would still maintain legitimacy as opposed to just not letting the sec champs in which would kind of be looked at as a joke

It won't happen, so this is all a moot point, but if we were to be undefeated and beat #1 Alabama at Alabama, we would easily move into the top 3 at that point, more likely top 2. In this scenario, you add to that a win at #1 (after Alabama loses, LSU moves up to #1) LSU and a win in the SEC championship game over a top 10 team we had not previously beaten (UGA, UF, or USCe), and I don't see any way we would be outside the top 2 at that point.

All that to say, it's not going to happen, so it doesn't make any difference.

I'm glad teams don't quit as often as people on this message board expect them to. Being a sports fan would really suck if they did.

Having been an MSU fan since I was old enough to know what football was I have seen us get screwed out of bowls we were deserving of in the past for various reasons and have to settle for lesser bowls. I just see it happening again should that come to be.

These two sentences show total ignorance of how the BCS process works.

Individual bowls get to "pick" their teams on a judgement call. The BCS title game does not. It is bcs #1 vs bcs #2 period. That means, it is 33% computer rankings, 33% harris poll voters, and 33% coaches poll voters. There are 6 computer rankings used, and the high/low rankings for each team are thrown out, so in reality, those computer rankings tote an effect of 8.25% each. They may be imperfect, but they are unbiased. Then, the Harris poll has 115 voting members, so each vote carries a weight of about 0.29%. Then, the coaches poll has 59 voting members, so each vote carries a weight of 0.56%.

Ultimately, there is a system of checks and balances in place so no team can be "screwed" out of a national title opportunity. Besides, the only team that has a chance to run the table outside the SEC this year is Florida St IMO, and they could easily get beat by the Gators the last week of the season...
