Everyone wants to blame our problems on the OL "Talent"...I thought I remembered several good years of recruiting recently. A simple ChatGPT helped remind me that we have dudes that are on par with most......1000021929.png

All I know is that I see people who don't physically defeat their opponents and don't have the feet necessary to protect the quarterback in the pocket.

If you take a moment to really watch our o line, it’s not just physical. They are whiffing on blocks and seem to not know who they are supposed to block. Like there is zero communication. If there is a blitz, the blitzer seems to always come free or frees up a d lineman. You can’t run any play under those circumstances. Yes, also they appear soft as hell as well. Terrible combo but knowing the actual blocking assignments is the first thing that needs corrected.

Sellers has said several times this season that they need to communicate better.

I watched a lot of games on Saturday and our offensive line play was by far the worse. Almost all of the losing teams' quarterbacks had reasonably good protection and time to throw the ball. Kentucky, Auburn, Florida and Arkansas who all lost looked better on offense than the Cocks. Maybe it's poor coaching or a lack of talent but something has to change quickly. The one positive thing I saw was I don't think we had a single false start. Here's hoping Coach Elliott turn this group around and maybe win three more games.

Sorry Florida actually won over Miss State. However State's QB had time to throw.

I loathe the portal, but Beamer needs to hit it hard for OL this cycle. Use the portal to stop the bleeding until we can develop our own OL.
You don't really see a lot of OL in the portal. That position group doesn't move around like the skill positions. I think it is because is takes several years for OL players to really develop into college OL. After a couple years in a program, they are either getting serious playing time or they realize they aren't going to be a good O lineman in college, an NFL career isn't coming and they are satisfied with their scholarship and whatever NIL money they are getting.

It’s because they’re not pre Madonna’s like skill players are. You need a solid foundation of middle class blue collar OL to be good. You need a group of 8-10 guys who are selfless and willing to sacrifice themselves for others to get the credit. That’s hard to find. It takes a special person to play OL knowing he will never get his “picture in the paper” when things go well and he will be the sacrificial lamb when it goes bad.

This is all true and that is why the people who think revamping the OL is as simple as "getting some good P4 OL from the portal" don't know what they are talking about. Look at teams with good OL play, they aren't up and down, they know having a good OL means recruiting the position every year and stacking talent at the position. OL has a lot of injuries so depth is crucial. Having four or five 4 star OL on roster looks good on paper but it only takes a couple injuries and a couple players who don't pan out and, suddenly, you have a terrible OL.

HS 4 star OL tend to be the biggest player on the field most of the time and their sheer physical dominance makes them good in HS. In college, they need footwork, quickness and intelligence to be good because the DL they face are as big as they are and are generally fast, something they rarely, if ever, see in HS. Quality OL players are not something a coach goes out and picks off the shelf in the portal.

He's been running this **** show for 5 years.... How much longer do we need to "develop our own"?What makes you think something is gonna change.
Sorry, I think Beamer is a great guy and I think he could be the coach we need. But in order to be that, he has to have top notch assistants and coordinators, the best of the best... To date, he has been unable to identify and hire them.

OL coach is the most important coach on the staff. Most high school linemen are 2 years from being ready to play SEC football. Development is key. We haven’t done that.
I'd put S&C right up there with it - sort of hand and glove.

I went back and looked at how many rushing yards we had last year compared to this year. In 13 games we had 2397 yards rushing for an average of 184 yards per game. This year, through 7 games we have 746 yards for an average of 106.5 yards per game. Last year we averaged 407.8 total yards per game and this year that number is down to 297 yards. I just can't believe the drop-off from last year. Is this all on the offensive line?

Well, we lost a pretty good RB, but I also seem to remember Sellers breaking off a bit more runs, even when the play broke down. Especially when the play broke down.

I think we're missing both of those on top of the OL performance.

Last year, Sellers averaged 51 yds rushing per game (net after sacks) and rushed for 7 tds. So far this season, he is averaging 15 yds rushing per game and has 1 td.

DCs watched the tape on him and adjusted their defense to stop him. It started with Illinois and has continued.

What started with Illinois was Shula.
Go back and rewatch the game. Illinois put a spy on Sellers on every play and took away his scrambling for big yards.

This season, when the protection breaks down (pretty much on every pass play), watch Sellers when he pulls the ball down and tries to run. There is generally a LB who is coming after him immediately and he has nowhere to run.

A preview of this year should have been when Torricelli Simpkins came in from North Carolina Central and started last year in front of all of our 4 star OL's.

Spies were no match against Loggains Sellers. Shula Sellers didn't really try.

Nothing to study. Don’t blitz. Make him throw it. He can’t.
