Looking at the schedule going forward...

I know most of this has been covered, but for those interested here goes...

Tennessee: We play Tennessee after a big road game for them @Georgia, and the week before they host Bama. This sets up nicely for us, but the only negative is Tenn has an extra week of practice with a bye week between Georgia and us.

Alabama: We play Alabama right after they play a big one @Tennessee, and a week before their Huge showdown AT LSU. Even if we are undefeated, I do not expect Bama to fully focus on a team they always beat, especially with LSU looming ahead.

Texas A&M: A&M will be in the middle of a 3 game road stretch when we play them. They will be coming off of a trip to Auburn, and looking forward to a trip to Bama. I never like the way we matchup with a Sumlin coached team, but hopefully A&M will be beaten up from their first SEC schedule. I do not like us having to play them after a bruiser against Bama, and before LSU. Many of our fans have this one penciled in as a W, but it makes me nervous.

LSU: They will be coming off of a big game with Bama, so hopefully win or lose they will be emotionally drained. They have Ole Miss the week after us, so that shouldn't come in to play (even though that's a big rivalry game for them***)

Arkansas: They will be coming off of a tough road trip to South Carolina, and this will be the week before their matchup with LSU. Also, who knows what shape they'll be in by this time. We have them at home, and even though it's between LSU and Ole Miss, I like our chances more and more each day in this game.

Ole Miss: They should be beaten up from a trip to LSU. I'm sure it will be closer than last year, and probably high scoring, but they aren't very good. How well we did through our brutal stretch may determine our mindset for this game. Obviously the coaches, team, and fans have high expectations, but if we lose 3 or 4 at the end of the year, Mississippi may pose a threat. If we have 8 or 9 wins at that point, we will slaughter them again.

Anyway, I just thought I'd give everybody an idea of how the schedule shakes out for us and our opponents.

The aTm game

will be interesting. If State remains relatively injury free up to that game, I think the Dogs win. Funny thing is, the fan base of BOTH teams are chalking that game up as a "W".

I know last night was just one game and we always seem to have at least one suck *** game per year, but it showed several weaknesses. I would take 8 wins right now and be happy.

Best MSU schedule since 1999...

...this year's schedule is about as rare as Halley's Comet. It sets up perfectly for a great season.Even the 2 sure losses (LSU & Bama) are away, so the players will not be so mentally discouraged when they lose. This is a schedule that plays into Mullen's hands.Let's see what he can do with it.

To you, maybe but I think it is perfectly rational. We have two sure losses and 3 more sure wins. The other 4 games are ones we should, not just could, win - TN, A&M, Ark, and OM.
Get over it and get on board. Time for Dan to earn his $2.6MM and i, for one, believe he'll do it.
Then when we win the bowl game, we'll have the first 11 win season in MSU history.
Cheers!

The reality is, no one expected - or even thought - we'd win the Arky game before the season started. You list TN, aTm, Ark, & OM as "should" win games. Not "sure" wins, but "should" wins. But you then say that you'll be "disappointed" if we don't win all four of them. I'll be thrilled if we win 3 of those 4 and finish 9 - 3. Frankly, so should our entire fan base.

Arkansas is beginning to remind me of last year's Ole Miss team. Perhaps a premature conclusion, but I'm starting to see a team that quits in the 3rd quarter if things aren't going their way. We'll see.

NOT true. I lived in Little Rock last year, and when John L was hired, I wrote a W down. I knew that man was not going to hold the focus together; he's not the scary hard-*** Bobby was. Little Petrino cannot run his brother's exact offense, and when word came in the preseason that 3 WRs were kicked off the team for doing stupid stuff, I knew it was golden. I figured that the razorbacks would implode, however I didn't see it to this extent. It's a pleasant surprise. I will very much enjoy watching that team beat itself into the ground.

I feel like we'll have to a pull a rabbit out of the hat to beat A&M. After watching both teams thus far, I think they are more physical on the line of scrimmage. Plus, we will be battered after the Bama game. This is a game that our fans really need to step-it-up and help provide that home field environment.

Actually, TN has an open date before they play us. They play GA on 9/29, are open on 10/6 and play us on 10/13. MSU is a "must win" for Dooley, and they will be ready for us.

so here is a question for you along that line

Whose defense is worse, Arky's or Om's?

in the line of the thread, there is a long way to go. I am more along the lines of one play at a time, not even one game at a time.
