in Marcello's blog can anyone explain to me why we would consider having an exhibition game as late as Dec. 15th? I thought exhibition games didn't count in terms of our player suspensions so I don't get why we would want to have one in that timeframe.

which we can't count exhibition games as part of? I only see 8 games before the tentative Dec. 15th date so how would Sidney be able to play?

if this is the schedule then its looking like the exhibition games may count toward the suspension as Sidney would be able to play the VA Tech game and Bost would be able to play starting the UM game.

I just know that's the idea, which means 1 of 2 things--- a. Just b/c sidney is inelgible, doesn't mean he can't play in exhibition games and/or b. There will be an extra game in there to make this his 10th.

This is just a theory:

We would like for the exhibition game to be right before Sidney's first game, but since we won't be home between his last game suspended and his first game eligible, we scheduled as close to game #10as possible.

For Sidney to be eligible for Virginia Tech and Bost to be eligible for SEC play, the following has to happen:

1. Schedule two more games between December 11 and the start of the SEC schedule. The game against St. Mary's will be one of them.
2. Move at least one game already scheduled to between December 11 and the Virginia Tech game. I doubt it'll be Tennessee State because the press release for the women's schedule release mentioned that the women's opener on the 12th was part of a doubleheader and the men are scheduled to play TSU that day. So Appalachian State, Troy, Detroit Mercy, Florida Atlantic, or Alabama State will likely be moved to either December 12 or 14.

The nitty gritty:

3. If only one game can be moved, then the remaining game to be scheduled will likely be on December 12 or 14, which means there will be a week and a half break between games from December 29 to January 8.
4. If two of the games scheduled before December 11 can be moved to December 12 and 14, then the one game to be scheduled could be sometime around January 2-4, which would also provide Bost a chance to play before SEC play begin.
5. If MSU can't get another game scheduled between December 11-18, there is the option to make the Belhaven game a game that counts-- if that works with Belhaven. That would mean though that Sidney would have to sit since that would be the ninth game of the season.

I don't follow other schools enough to know but it sure seems like every suspension we get is the requisite 9 games. Is this the norm?

we are basically pandering to a guy who screwed up. if the NCAA had not suspended him, then rick would have done nothing to him at all for his actions. so in essence, we are rewarding this dubmass for being a dubmass and it will be at the detriment to the team.

i for one hope that Beckham comes out playing great and Bost ends up sitting the bench. it would be the ultimate karma. the problem is that probably won't happen. the guys on the team likely get pissed that they are having to play their asses off because of bost and then the team chemistry is shot to hell when he gets to play. we lose some games we should NEVER lose and then we are stuck hoping to get into the tournament aGAIN. all hypothetical but it sure as hell could be the result from all of this ********.

is the fact that he was so convinced he was out of here that he didn't even bother to keep himself academically eligible. Even though I'm glad we'll have his basketball talent on the floor at some point this season he's not very high on my likeability meter right now.

Most Likely to Least Likely

1. Alabama State plays at Arkansas State on December 11 with the next game being in Montgomery on December 16 (my odds-on favorite for a moved game).
2. Appalachian State plays at Georgetown on December 12 and has December 14 open with the following game on December 18.
3. Detroit Mercy plays on December 11 and December 14 open with the following game on December 18.
4. Troy plays at Miami (Ohio) on December 11 and their next game is December 16 at Troy versus Florida Atlantic.
5. Florida Atlantic looks to be the only school that can't change its schedule since they play two games in New York on December 11 and 13 before playing at Troy on December 16. </p>

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. I get that some of you guys don't like Stans, but the lengths you'll go to find ridiculous things to criticize him for just amaze me. Bost knew the deadline and woke up the next morning and realized he'd <17>ed up. He's an idiot. But Stans would have been an idiot not to try to get him back for this season.

Discipline has never been Rick's strong suit, so you are right that he would have not done anything else. Being out fall for grades and 9 games for the NCAA is enough to me though. If the NCAA had said two games, and Rick had upped it to nine, everyone would have been screaming at him for doing that.

Beckham has less chance of putting Bost on the bench than I do. Bost could play one handed and be better than Tranny. That's just fact. I'm not sure Tranny will get big minutes while Bost and the RSS are out. He's just not that good.

Athletes, most of the time, are competitors. They want to win, and they know their best chance of winning is with Bost playing and playing well (thanks Jackie). I don't think chemistry will be shot at all. All of these guys know Bost. They've played with him for two years. They are his teammates, roommates and friends. They all also know that 30+ minutes of playing time is going to disappear as soon as he is eligible. So between Tranny, Benock, Bryant, Steele, Smith and Ravern, some or all are going to lose minutes.

We lose games we should never lose every year, with Bost or without him. Rider, at Western Kentucky, at Auburn, Richmond....heck, we might have even beaten Richmond if Bost had missed the bus to that one last year. Can't blame any early season loss on Bost. That's just bidness as usual at MSU.

I for one can't wait to get Bost and Syndey on the floor, the extra games are like Bowl season, extrapractice, for the rest of the team. By the time the real season gets here all should be ready.
