our offensive game plan was obviously to attack their pitcher early on. Seemingly, the first inning demonstrated it was the right plan. However, carrot top Cajun boy began mowing us down. He was very good, and when one helps a very good pitcher he becomes great. Through 5 innings he was averaging just over 10 pitches an inning. Late in the game we started to take some pitches and were close to getting to him. We let him off the hook and lost our chance to see their bullpen. Christian must get better throwing strikes. He was just plain wild with his fast ball. He consistently missed high in the zone...several pitches were high and wide. He did have good command of his off speed stuff. Obviously, our defense didn’t help him. Logan Tanner is lethal behind the plate...when we catch the ball and apply the tag successfully. We were not ready to play. There was a total lack of concentration, and we let that bus load of obnoxious, arrogant, crazy Green Waves intimidate us on our own turf. Today we better be ready and in a totally different mindset. Plus, we must have a better game plan. If we do not it will be Game One all over again.

I attribute that lose to just one of those games where we couldn’t hit, pitch or field and their guy did a good job of throwing strikes and being around the plate every inning. It happens to every team every year. We’ll be better today and tomorrow if they play

Their pitcher faced 31 batters and threw 92 pitches...an average just under 3 pitches per batter.

When is your offensive game plan not ever to attack the pitcher, unless your sac bunting?

Sounds like a baseball game.

Maybe our strategy is to sleep on defense when there's an ace on the mound for the opposing team. Or try too hard to make routine plays.

We need to erase that game and just play ball, last night was a cold poop sammich we looked like boo boo

Ddog’s point was valid. There’s a time to attack a good pitcher (early innings). But when low pitch count easy outs become a trend, you have to adjust and try to see more pitches (make the pitcher work/earn outs)

I concur. I'll give the kid credit, he pitched a solid game, and he did a spectacular job of getting our guys to chase pitches out of the zone. That said, it's not he was throwing 100 MPH heat or that he was hitting every spot. To me, we were way too aggressive, and it led to a lot of tapped balls out of the zone. I'm not saying that we should have laid back and just prayed for walks, but we could've at least exercised enough patience to force him back over the plate, and we just didn't show much in the innings I watched. I will also say that he got some strikes called early on that CM flat out wasn't getting. Very frustrating, but it happens I guess

Not really worried about it. Even if we lose the series I would still think we're going to be fine. Getting swept might raise some red flags, but not expecting that.

This lineup isn't on the level of the 2016 or 2019 lineups, they'll get handled by good pitchers some nights. And then there will be days like last Saturday when they cause problems for an All-American like they did against Ty Madden a week ago. And we also aren't going to boot it around the infield every game like we have the last two.

I was only making an observation after a game. I am just an avid MSU baseball fan and certainly know much less about the game than our staff. However, I was a good Little League player***😎
