we didn't play very well, with obvious problems on the oline and secondary. But, we did win 45-7, which is a blowout. I know, I know- it was Jackson State. I'll just say the slow start was "first game jitters". However, there's a few improvements I believe can be made in one week that can make a huge difference:

1. WR blocking- this is a must for the spread and hopefully this will improve (we had several holding calls that stalled drives) Personally I think WR blocking is more effort than technique- just get in the guy's way
2. QB reads- on several option plays that Relf ran he made the wrong read- gave when he should have kept, and kept when he should have gave. There were some big gains there and we just didnt get the right read.

Other notes: our kicker will be fine and safties please stay deep

I've bitched for years that our WR's aren't blocking downfield like every other team's. I was so happy in a way to see the holding calls, because that meant they were making the effort to block, which hadn't been there in the past. So I'll take a few holding calls, in the hopes that the refs will miss more than they catch.

We just cant have another first half like we did this past weekend. That first half was horrendous but there are a lot of positives still floating around. Our players just got to stay in sync with each other.

our WR's can just not grab someone's jersey. I'm more pissed off at the other teams WR's in the past that hold our defenders (cough, West Virginia, Alabama) and nothing gets called.

I think we improved after halftime as far as holding at the WR position.

Just on the playcalling along I think we sneak one W out somewhere that we aren't suppose to win...
Anything better than a 5 win year is a success.

We have a lot of positives going for, but we are young which will hamper us on the road at some of the games we would/should win in Starkville.

I hope it was just a first game issue. I think the coaching staff will work on the situation. I am looking forward to the game Saturday. Win or lose I think that it will be a good game. I would be willing to bet a pay check there is more points scored this time. I wonder what the over- under will be?
