didn't brooks come from MCC ...I actually kind of like this move

I realize or I think up until this point the guy can't coach, but where Ray is young and tough ...maybe Brooks is that father figure that will relate to kids and pull them under his wings ...oh wait this cat is 38, i thought he was 60... who knows why he was retained.

he was a hustle and effort guy that gave everything he had. He was THAT guy on defense that you could never get away from and drove people crazy.

Maybe he conveys that type of hustle and attitude in his coaching (even if we didnt see it from the team in 2012)

I get that we shouldn't let one recruit dictate coaches, but at this point we have no viable PG for next year if Gray leaves. I'd have rather kept Grant. I "hope" Ray knows what he's doing. I guess only time will tell.

what if keeping Grant pissed Hood off and he went on, but keeping Brooks meant under the table Hood agreed to stay ...no Moultrie "knee", just asking your thoughts

Gone are the days where kids are committed to a school. Most kids commit to a coach or a coaching philosophy. I can understand why though with the $$$$ most young men have dancing in their heads. <div>
</div><div>I wish there was a way to make both happy. Anyway, can Hood play PG? No matter how good Hood is, if we can't get it down the court how's he gonna score? Gray is more than likely another 2-3 year player. And he looks like the real deal. Hood, if he stays, is probably one more and done. SO in that scenario which is more valuable? I don't know the answer. Ray is paid to know that answer. Let's hope he has a good plan put together. </div>

Word on the street was that Stansbury hired Brooks a couple of years ago specifically to recruit Hood and Pollard full-time. Being from Meridian CC, he was "in" with all the high school, juco and AAU/summer coaches in that area. Supposedly, there's some more significant talent coming down that east Miss. pipeline in the next couple of years and Brooks is already recruiting them. So, I would bet Coach Ray was informed of all this ahead of time and decided it was a good idea to keep Brooks around.

Rodney Hood was a 5 star recruit and number 5 ranked at SF in the nation. He is most important. Brooks has known Rodney's dad for 15years. This Gray guy is a 3 star and not ranked nationally, Gray isnt that big of deal.

He was Big East player of the year. It's a good thing you aren't our coach because stars are not the be all and end all of recruiting. Phil Turner was a zero star. Barry Stewart was a non-nationally rated 3 star, and he is the career 3 point leader for MSU.

Don't base what you say about recruits solely on star ratings because it makes you look uninformed. </p>

Hood could still leave, the family said in DJ they would look at it over the weekend. Not a good feeling on this.

But Hood is a proven college player. Gray is a moderately recruited high school player. If Hoodwants tokeep 1 assistant and Grant wants keep another, there's not even a decision to make. Gray may turn out to be an All-American. He could just as well turn out to be a complete non-factor in college. We just don't know. But we do know that Hood is a pretty good college player with potential to be very good.

What do you expect them to say? Yeah we told coach Ray he better keep Brooks or Hood is transferring.
Hood is not going anywhere and Brooks staying is part of the reason, why do you think we hired Brooks to begin with?

I was mainly responding to the fact that in DawgMBA's post he seemed to completely dismiss Gray because he was only a 3 star that wasn't nationally rated. He said "This Gray guy is a 3 star and not ranked nationally, Gray isnt that big of deal."Saying Gray isn't that big of a deal seems pretty ignorant to me considering our current situation.

If it came down to Hood for Gray, you take Hood 100% ofthe time. But to say he isn't that big of deal is ridiculous.

We have done all we can to this point.

Build around Hood
We expect Hood to command doubleteams
We even kept George Brooks over Grant, who some wanted as the next coach...

I went a lil over board with my Gray comment, I didnt mean he didnt have potential to be very good, he does and he can. I just meant in comparrison to Hood he was no big deal because Hood is a very big deal. I hope this move was to sway Hood, I remember hearing Gray post on twitter saying RR you need to hire Grant. I believe hes more focused on Hood than Gray, and I think this hire shows that.

need to be letting recruits dictating who our staff is made of. We've already dealt with our share of prima donnas over the past few years.

From all of Ray's comments it seems he thinks Hood will be the center piece to build his team around and I agree with him. Josh Gray would be our starting pg next season if he decides to still come. But his team mate P.J. Hardwick is on board and is a quick albeit short pg that is excited and ready to get here. Coach is doing it his way. If he can get josh on board great. If not we have to move on. Lets let the Alabama boy get in there and see if he can save josh for us. Wes Flannigan was a surprise name but I'd be willing to bet he has inroads there and hopefully Josh and Craig are familiar with him. He was I believe an all SEC guard and that should impress

He was using Hood as an example. He wants EVERYONE on the team to be good enough to draw a double team.
