No wonder the Knicks have sucked for so long. Their management blows. They are going to let Lin walk and get absolutely nothing in return because they won't match a 3 year 25 million dollar contract for one of the most popular (I said popular not best)players in the world. If they think they can win with justCarmelo and Amare then they are screwed.

They backloaded it so that most of his money is in year 3 which is also when the knicks owe melo and armare a ton so it was going to push them way over the salary cap

I imagine Houston's real goal here is to get another asset for a Howard deal

But I think they could have moved him after the first year (or preferably sooner) and gotten something for him. But it would have been a big risk. Hard to manage your cap when you have such a wild fluctuation in somebody's salary. And if he underperformed in year one, you either have to give away significant assets to get somebody to take his salary, or you have to take the pain in year 3.
