The players turned down a 50/50 split without even taking a vote. They now plan to sue the NBA. What are they going to do? Start their own league?
I am so glad college basketball has started...

When I was 10-12 I'd go outside and turn the antenna (cheap dad) to watch every NBA on NBC game. Nearly 20 years later I bet I hadnt watched a complete non-playoff game in nearly a decade.

Heck they are getting paid a fortune to PLAY 17nbasketball.
Last game I actually attended was in Mempho ..to watch LR. Tickets were about $70/$80. then.
They need to get in the real world.

As far as no season...Ho Hum....

and undisciplined morons, most of whom will be broke shortly after they retire?

And what will the NBA groupie hoes (or is it hos?) do now without an endless stream of non-condom wearing retards to impregnate them?

Oh wait. They'll just find other baby daddies. My bad.

for someone to pull this card. Go ahead and throw in a couple of N bombs next time. It's true what they say about the NBA's lack of popularity in the South, most prefer their favorite black athletes hidden under pads where you can't see their tattoos. Stay classy.

The deal offered is far worse than the old deal and NBA talent is still the reason why butts are in the seats. If you believe (as I do) that greed fuels the economy, you cannot be surprised that the players, who really posses the interesting aspect of the NBA (talent), are wrong to push for a better deal. It's the owners that have really beenviciouslynon-malleable.<div>
</div><div>Also, you can easily get a ticket to almost all NBA games for around $10/$15 and season tickets are even cheaper on a per game basis.</div>

Such a simple mind you must have that you're unable to allow different views without hurling vulgar epithets. I cheer for State and enjoy college football--not sure if you've noticed the ethnic makeup of SEC teams. I guess you're too just too morally superior to acknowledge this.

So I read and have noticed some things about the NBA. Here's an article on the NBA and bankruptcy from a lefty blog:
http://thinkprogress.org/...llionaires-billionaires/

And here's a great read on NBA groupies (hint, they actually like the rappers more) from GQ:
http://www.gq.com/sports/...6/nba-men-women-groupies

Edited to retract my last sentence which was likewise vulgar and simplistic (and made me somewhat hypocritical).

Just posting accurate observations about the NBA--now feel free to refute them instead of leveling accusations that have ruined people's careers and harmed their families. Not sure whether you noticed but whites accused of racism often face dire consequences and an uphill battle challenging the false assumptions.

..of the NBA.

You are also the sterling citizen that believes (as you suggested here once) that awarding athletic scholarships to minorities is a form of affirmative action.

Just for the record, I'm not accusing you of racism.

I'm accusing you of being such a proud & blatant racist, you don't even try to hide it.

Ronny: I never said SEC football was a form of affirmative action (I actually don't think it is) but apparently you don't have the critical reading ability to understand what I wrote. What I said was that it college football was essentially a religion in which wealthy white supporters lavish money and support on academically unprepared athletes, most of whom don't look like wealthy college supporters or most students on campus, in a zero-sum game to gain emotional satisfaction from having their team beat another team. Marx was wrong about the opiate of the masses--it's sports not religion. And most athletes require academic waivers to enroll in school and significant tutoring budgets to keep them there even though coaches steer said athletes to easy majors.

The athletes are being used and defrauded and should be paid.

Wow, my views are so racist. It's easy to hurl accusations when you're disingenuous (you probably have to look that one up) and simple minded.

My guess is you're a typical (shallow) supporter of multiculturalism which means that you declare how wonderful diversity is while living in a segregated neighborhood, sending your kids to private schools, and only embracing diversity by drinking a margarita on cinqo de mayo.

What part of his post is untrue? Problem is not the post/poster but touchy-feely ppl who get offended about everything. I'm sure you have a little "x" and bet it works really good for getting off of "offensive" websites. Now, if you're a big boy and still wanna play..take a couple of Midol and wash the sand out of your ******..geez

The owners are asking for a far greater revenue share than before. The players were earning 57% of the revenue and are now being offered 50%--a huge decline. The players aren't asking for more money--they have offered to drastically lower their shares. <div>

although the teams are individually owned they could not and would not exist without each other. If truly a competitive business then there goal would be not to beat the other team but to run them out of the business. IMO greed by the players. They want to enjoy all the fruits (income) but none of the risk. IE let's put a clause in the contract that says if we as a team suck then you give up X% of your salary.

How is trying to protect your business vicious? It's not right or wrong for the owners or players to push for better deals. It can only be smart or stupid. If the players want to start up their own league (and I think they should), they won't have to accept anything close to the deals being offered by the owners. If the players can't or don't want to start their own league, that tells me the owners must be bringing something valuable to the table that the players can't replicate, in which case the players should take the best deal they can get before they lose out on any more paychecks.

But you're right, people at State looooooove Renardo. I just can't get over all the positive posts about him on this board. I'm sure if he were able to make the NBA, you'd see people here start to bash him then. Same thing with Augustus. Good thing for his sake that he never made the NBA so he didn't have to hear state fans turn on him and call him a tattooed up moron.

So you are telling me that if we had a player that was all tattoed up and was a bad *** basketball player you wouldn't like him and would think of him as a tattoed up moron while he was here?

You know, when he declared for the draft and went AWOL, then ignored Stans and co, then talked with them in Vegas, then said he was all in, then missed the withdrawal date while saying he was all in, then claiming he didn't know the date had been moved up, then claiming he knew it was moved up and his paperwork was only a few hours late, then it was revealed he told Stans the next morning that he stayed in.

Yep, moron.

There isn't anything better to call him for that dumbassedry.

I loathe the NBA player that has an attitude problem, snarls all the time, gets into crap on and of the court, etc. And typically that sort of player is inked all over.
But Kevin Durant is also inked to the hilt and I'm pretty sure he is the least troublesome superstar ever, at least up to now.

Tats don't make the player hated, it's the childish crap that comes along with the overall culture, of which tattoos play a role.

I thouroughly enjoy the NBA. The regular season has some slow points but to me nothing beats the NBA playoffs. The intensity is insane and the level of skill and athleticism is unmatched in other sports. This lockout is killing me.

that earning a former share of 43% and now refusing 49% is pretty crazy. I'm sure they will eventually be the winner in all this, but this is very very risky behavior. We all know how fans respond to lockouts and the owners are clearly being way moreaggressive than the players association.
