Just to clarify, it's BOBBY Petrino. It makes a difference to us at U of I where brother Paul Petrino is the coach.

BOBBY Petrino is a damn liar and snake oil salesman. Of course, there's always a place in society for these people, but why parents would send their children to him to be the proxy parent for four years is mind boggling to me.

I totally get it. Guy is a brilliant football mind and many kids are willing to look past cheating on his wife with a hottie half his age and leaving the Falcons after one year, and leaving Louisville for more money to begjn with. Many dads sending their sons away to hopefully be turned into a professional football players are going to over look that stuff. You have any idea how many coaches fool around? Doesn't make it right, but it isn't a deal breaker for many. No reasonable person turns down a better job for more money either. The guy has some warts, may not fly completely straight, but when you really look at the whole picture many just don't see it as a deal breaker.

So let me ask this, in all candor, do you think he is such an amazing motivator, strategic X's and O's guy, has a great system, great (legit) recruiter, or do you think he finds gray areas or even crosses the line a time or two to get the type of player he needs? I just find it hard to believe when some of these guys out there are so successful so quickly at programs that they are stand-up guys and just "out-coach" other guys. Doesn't add up to me. And knowing his lack of character, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he crosses the ethical line when recruiting.

I don't think a lot of parents look at it that way. Like, when a non-athlete goes away to college I don't think the parents are thinking "Hmmm, I hope that his English 101 Prof really looks after our daughter"

90% better than all but maybe.... 4 or 5 other coaches. Tops. 10% willing to do a little of what every school he's recruiting against is doing. I think he has a brilliant mind for coaching college football, sells himself well in living rooms, knows how to coach QB's up. I think he's a flat out great coach who's going to make most reasonable CFB fans top 10 coaches currently coaching. I put him even higher, and I think his sleaze has more to do with his personal life and whatever demons he's chasing off the field, than a....cheats his *** of kind of guy on the field...... 90/10, that's what I think.

How much time does your child spend with the English 101 prof compared to a player to his football coach? I would say that's not a fair comparison... You may be right, but the amount of time given between a coach and player is hundreds of hours more than a student a one particular professor...

I'm not either, but I'm thinking that personal interaction between student and prof over 3 hours a week is probably next to nothing... I'm thinking the head coach has more interaction with his players he sees practically daily in season than the prof with his student.

I think the biggest difference is the English prof isn't recruiting your child. He/she is not sitting in your living room making you promises that a head coach does for his players. Maybe most parents take those promises with a grain of salt...

The Eng 101 prof I had was way more interested in the girls in his class outside of the classroom than in it.
