I'm sure that it would not have gotten this far if there was no intrest from the SEC. But, the SEC can't come out and ask aTm to drop the Big 12 and join us without getting sued. As far as the statement saying that the SEC was happy with 12 teams, the second sentence was "We recognize, however, that future conditions may make it advantageous to expand the number of institutions in the league." Well, the future may be tomorrow. Also in the statement "No action was taken in respect to aTm". What action could be taken? They're still in the Big 12.
Kind of hard to have a private, off the record talk, on a conference call, never know who else is in the room.

you think the mafia ever did phone calls...a few hundred grand is smalls in comparison to the rumored 30 to 35 mil a year per school tv contract with an expansion. what is it now, 15 mil? Isnt our entire budget less than 40 mil? That is a HUGE difference for the bottom 4 or 5 schools.
You need a new travel agent. WTF else did you expect? A public announcement that A&M was in if they wanted to (and could) come? You make that announcement and they don't (or can't) come and you look like idiots. Translation is the ball in in A&M's court.
The future could be tommorrow. If the SEC wasn't interested in A&M, this statement would have never have been made.
simply because the few folks that I know that own private jets, one of them being the one favre used in his many trips to and fro retirement, said it costs 30k just to crank the bastard. I would imagine most took the private jet to the meeting. Im also sure that they were probably embelishing a bit, but you get the drift.
we used to take crop dusters to knoxville, dallas, memphis, etc that would cost several thousand for a few hours...this from laurel international.I know those private JETS cost thousands an hour. A quick search of google shows this....
