Looks like the AD had a little chat with Kelly

Hadn't seen that rant before. He had that thing ready to go, it didn't matter what the first question was or who asked it.

Also, it IS a sign of respect to the team asking why they played badly despite a win. Great coaches aren't satisfied with playing sloppy and winning.

That little Brian Kelly angel figure standing on his shoulder telling him to do the right thing doesn't exist.

I feel like this about like I do when a politician avoids press conferences or lashes out at a reporter for no reason because he doesn't like the question. Brian Kelly is getting paid $10M per year. Part of the job is to stand there and answer questions, even if you don't always love the questions. Do you like the $10 MILLION salary? Get your fatass out there and start tapdancing.

I disagree

the press has gotten to the point where they are lazy as ****.

Part of me wishes schools would tell them to F off with the press conference. You want a story? Earn it.

So no press conferences?

Since no teams are going to allow reporters to film practices, and I doubt they want them accosting the players during water breaks, life might get pretty dull up here on Sixpack's Peak with absolutely zero information about any MSU sports teams.

We can disagree, but my thought is if I paid one of my employees $10M per year, I'd want pretty detailed reports on just what the hell he's doing to help my company each week.

I side with BK on this one. He had nothing apologize for.
It is hard as hell to win a SEC football game, so no surprise that question struck a nerve. But he handled it well. Reached out to the guy, said nice things about his work, then offered an explanation that most people would understand - that it was the heat of the moment and that he will always err on the side of his players. Good for him.

Brian Kelly doesn’t make $10MM because he is good at press conferences. He gets paid $10MM to win. Which he did on Saturday night. For the 295th time.

I certainly agree with this but if the AD is using the press for this hes doing it wrong!!

My main point is a lot of these reporters act entitled. I mean they have a press conference for you so all you have to do is walk in and ask some questions. At least use a little common sense and respect. The school doesn't have to set it up so nice for you.

I get what you're saying, but in my metaphor, the fans and (especially) donors are the employer. The AD isn't coming out of pocket to pay the coach's salary, we are.

So I feel like we deserve to hear what's going on periodically.

I get that. I just loath the media. Not all media members and reporters but the media in general.

It’s like Ole Miss people. I know some great ole miss people but ole Miss in general is full of pompous arrogant pricks.

Yeah no shiit he's not good at press conferences. That's not the point. If I'm paying a coach (which I happen to be, partially), the job includes doing everything he can to put us in the position to get the team better every week, winning games, recruiting players for the future, and representing my school (and his employers) well in public.

You can bet part of that last thing is show up in the public periodically, kiss babies, shake hands, and not say stupid things or make a jerk out of yourself and your employer. It also includes reporting on what he's doing to me and all the other employers. Hell, I expect that stuff out of my employees making $50k.

Kelly has now gone back and apologized for how he handled it, so it seems he agrees that it's part of the $10MM job he'd like to keep.

The link didn't allow me to read it without registering my e-mail.

And I didn't imply that it was my call. A decent man would admit fault and pay a penance.

The university did, but I don't think coach did.
You are misinformed

How I feel about Brian Kelly has nothing to do with your inability to discern fact from fiction.
The fact is that Brian Kelly was told by staffers it was probably too windy to have the kid go up in the scissor lift to film practice.

He ignored them.

Well, you can get his honest response, which he gave, or he can give you a bunch of coach speak and tell you absolutely nothing. I'm guessing the media will start getting a bunch of the latter.

The worst of what he read was on the Internet: writers who spoke for his family having never met them, bloggers certain a settlement was involved.

“I understand why they’re angry,” Barry Sullivan said. “Fine, be angry, get over it.”

He is not angry. The question Sullivan is asked often is whether he forgave the university and the principals involved. The answer is yes with a caveat.

“I resist that because to forgive means you’ve assigned blame,” he said. “And not to say this could not have been prevented, but I don’t feel anybody knowingly acted recklessly and caused the accident. Or that anybody in the football program said, ‘We are willing to risk lives for the sake of Notre Dame football.’

“I know that. I’m closer to it than anybody. I wish everyone would take my word for it.”

The Sullivans started the Declan Drumm Sullivan Memorial Fund, its slogan: “Honor One Life. Impact Hundreds.”

The university’s investigation included more than 50 interviews with bystanders and experts and produced a report of more than 100 pages. Ultimately, it cited four main reasons for the crash: a sudden and extraordinary burst of wind; staff members’ lack of knowledge in regard to on-field wind speeds; the type of lift involved being more susceptible to tipping; and the height of the lift when the accident occurred.

I work with a Notre Dame grad. He said that a former OSHA rep said privately that there was some negligence.

But ND is a powerful institution.

I work with a Notre Dame grad. And just like your co-worker, he isn’t an insider just because he went to school there. Don’t be so gullible.
