By even progressing some idea than this past a dream should discredit any further argument for increased funding. Well that and the supers new fatter paycheck. That is unless Jim Waide spray paints that leftover turf for the BancorpSouth Center blue and gives it to them.

According to their numbers, artificial turf costs $34,000 less per year to maintain so long term it is not a terrible idea. There are several larger schools around the state going to turf for this reason.

I think that's generally the case. Higher up-front cost, but lower yearly costs. Of course, that can be skewed if the turf doesn't last as long as it's projected to. It's a lot harder to maintain a HS grass field than a college one because the HS field gets so much more use. HS, JR high, & JV football, then boys and girls soccer in the winter.

I don't have a dog in the fight, but, the people that sell it to you tell you that. The people that end up taking care of it dispute that somewhat. It depends on whether you have a dedicated mower, a sprinkler system, fertilize/pre-emerge program, etc. The artificial turf is not maintenance free. Depending on which type is put down the turf has to be "brushed" w/ a large pull behind unit regularly to fluff it, the crumb rubber spread and replaced periodically, cleaned (tobacco spit, blood, dust/dirt, leaves, etc) All in all I'm sure it is cheaper but if you are like a lot of the schools a mower gets passed from the football field to the baseball field to the softball field etc, the coaches mow and there are no irrigation systems and little or no fertilize. In that case it may be a wash but you would still benefit from playability in bad weather.

The things I learn on Sixpack. A coach with smurf fluffer on his resume would draw some attention.

As long as they don't play soccer on it, I have no problem with it. But if they do play soccer on it, its a joke and travesty just like it is at every MLS stadium where its done.

Heck, Brandon has been fighting to just get regular green turf the last couple years! Guess we should be trying to get RED turf!
