Looks like we can forget returning to basketball divisions

With Kentucky, Fla, and Vandy leadig the SEC, and an average Tennessee team in the running for 4th...then adding Missouri- there is no way in Hell you will get them to go back to divisions in the East.

Plus, all the 6-6 teams right now actually make the race for the 4th spot interesting

if the lack of divisions does help us get a 9-7 or 8-8 team into the NCAAT. If we only send 3 teams, the other 5 West schools should be slapped upside the head for ever agreeing to kill the divisions.

I'm thinking we play all the other SEC teams at least once with two permanent 2-game opponents (UM & Alabama?) and rotate three per year so that we're guaranteed a home-away matchup with every other SEC school at least once every four years (with one of those rotating schools being twice every four years).

The vote was 11-1. That's not something you would expect to see get reversed for a long time. Personally, I liked the divisions, but it really doesn't matter much either way.

SOS is supposed to already be a factor in this, and other than the lucky school that got USC twice instead of us or Arkansas, the standings across the board would be even less impressive.

Hadnt heard.

Or was this just a creative way to point out that the East is currently dominating the standings?

Bama, LSU and UPig were miles ahead of anything the East could offer. Auburn could hang in the discussion for 4th in the SEC considering they had to the play the Big Three of the West and the Georgia, South Carolina and Florida did not.

....especially since Roberts and that crew left.

1 at large NCAA bid and 1 AQ in 6 years - an 8 and a 13. 1-2 in the Dance.

No wonder he wanted to hang on to them so bad.

Without divisions, the only measuring stick is winning the league outright and/or making the tournament.

But yeah, if divisions don't make sense in basketball, why do they make sense in any other sport? Hell, there are sports where you play an 11-game schedule where everyone plays everyone else once, but they still have divisions.

The CFA jettisoned the NCAA and the NCAA crawled back.

The NCAA and the International Olympic Committee are two "non-profit" organizations that print money. I'm not sure what purpose the NCAA serves other than to screw things up.

I liked winning the division championships, but I still think we're one of the top SEC programs even without them. I think the coach deserves some credit for that. I would trade our program for any in the league except Kentucky, Florida, and maybe Vandy. Which do you envy?
