If Mullen is at MSU for 11 years without making a New Years Day bowl then the basketball sheep that hold Ricky accountable for nothing will have taken over at MSU. The way that you come up with excuses for little Ricky I'm not sure that hasn't already happened. Can we go ahead and appoint Noah, Isaac, and Jebediah as coaches in waiting since a good portion of MSU fans think that basketball obviously revolves around a Stansbury?

In fact, if we had gone 8-4 this year, we probably would have gotten the shaft again, like we usually do. Therefore, the point remains. If Mullen were to go 8-4, with an occasional 7-5 or 9-3 mixed in, and not get us to a New Year's Day Bowl, you'd have him fired? If not, then stop being a hypocritical douchebag because this is pretty much what Stans has done his entire coaching career at MState.
this year, so it's a silly argument. The arbitrary NYD bowl line is a non-factor. It's pretty much BCS and every other bowl now. If Dan Mullen is 7-5 or better every year we will erect a statue and we will play in many bowls equivalent to PapaJohn's , Liberty or Cotton from this year. I think Stans has done a pretty good job, but at some point we need to get over the hump. Perhaps, he's the victim of his own success. ONE Sweet 16 with some of his teams is not too much to ask.

Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, Orange, Cotton, Citrus or Capital One, Outback, Gator, Holiday - Those are what I think of when it comes to NYD bowls. The ones with cool names n **** (or used to, thanks Corporate America).

and the SEC adds another new year's day bowl next year in the gator bowl. if we win 9 games again, or even 8 games, i'd be willing to bet that we would land in the cotton, outback, citrus, or gator bowl. plus, if the sec champ is in the BCS title game, then two SEC teams could get BCS bids, meaning that 6 (instead of 5) SEC teams get new year's day bowl bids.

NYD bowl, to me means:
Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, Orange Bowls (BCS)
Cotton Bowl (traditionally a NY bowl for 70+ years, and still carries some distinction even though it doesn't involve a conference champion)
Capital One (I still call it the Citrus Bowl)
Outback
Gator
Back in the day (10+ years ago), all 8 of those games were played on January 1, so that's what most people consider a NYD bowl game.

But NYD bowl doesn't mean anything anymore. I think the the SEC will have Sugar, Cotton, Capital One, Outback and Gator tie-ins next year? Throw in a championship game and the sixth best team in the SEC goes to a "New Years Day Bowl." Even in the SEC, the sixth best team typically won't be good. This year I would argue that our third best team barely qualified as good.MSUCostanza said:

Really, the only crappy bowl for a SEC team would be the one in Birmingham, with a strong case for Shreveport. And most conferences would probably love to be in the Indy Bowl.
