Gotta love those two-week commitments.***

Sounds like he was always holding out for a Bama offer. If that's the case, why commit to State in July? That part doesn't make much sense to me.

Good player, though. Definitely wish he was headed our way.

Did you see his offer list? Jacksonville St, Middle Tenn, South Alabama - we obviously fooled Bama into wasting a scholarship on this guy.

Holcombe is an unranked two star on Scout. His . . . . .

flip to Alabama significantly lowered their overall average rating and raised State's.

So did he have a State offer or not? And, if so, why are we offering unranked 2 stars?

if saban wants the guy then you have to figure mullen et al just did a good job of evaluating him before the geniuses at scout got around to it. the bama's lsu's etc are hard to hold off on their instate kids. some of these committs are holding their place till they get the offer they are waiting on. its happened to both of us before and will again.

I believe he's a 4 star on 247 and a 3 star on Rivals. For whatever reason, Scout is way behind on their player ratings.

The list of these players is long. It happens time and time again. Chris Jones comes to mind. Johnthan Banks (Croom actually found him). Darius Slay. Bernardrick McKinney. Blaine Clausell. Justin Cox. Malcolm Johnson. Tubby Lewis. Dillon Day. Justin Malone. All of which were 2 star nobodies and now above average contributors. Mullen also signed Billy Hamilton late who obviously would have been an outstanding talent. He's just got an eye for it, and there's likely more to come.

Unfortunately. I don't think "2 star nobodies and now above average contributors" are going to win any SEC championships anytime soon.
That is our burden and the yoke around our neck for we are MSU.

It sucks but he did what most of us would have done in the same situation. It

is good to see us in the running for these guys and we just have to keep grindin.

Only MSU fans can truly see that as a negative. Even a rebel (although jacksonreb is very reasonable) gave credit where it was due.

We never had him. I don't get the fascination with early recruiting.

well when you are the bama's and lsu's and florida's and uga's of the 'cruiting world, it's fun to follow cause you pull who you want and when you miss a guy, you move "down" to the next 4* on your list. when you are the msu's of the world, it sucks cause we are on the wrong end of the "breaking news".

step 1 to following recruiting: stop following ****** scout
step 2 to following recruiting: start following 247

247 is so above and beyond everyon else when it comes to scouting guys early, and not just the top 50 guys, but everyone.

well, we can't all go head to head

with the bama's, Georgia's, Texas', USC's, LSU's, Flardah's of the world to get recruits because of our wonderful campus* and atmosphere*. we can't all be college football elites with a 7-6 record**

I think you are wrong; if we had a whole team of the caliber performers listed in that post with the character they seem to have, there's no telling what we could do.

Sometimes I get really sick of us poor-mouthing ourselves. I understand that it's better to be realistic than delusional, and I don't really think that too many recruits or their parents are reading our message boards and writing us off because of what we say here, but hell, y'all why would a kid want to come play at State with the attitude some of you all show about the players?

I agree. This is no lost. I looked at his so call highlight film and Really, 85% of his highlight are coming for half-a$$ plays from the other players how can't block. P.S. he might be rated as a 4 star but he is really a 2 star. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYA9z8qzDuk

Sucks for you guys! I think Coach Mullen and staff found something they liked right under Sabans nose and unfortunately the machine that is bama stole one from y'all. It sucks but I bet Coach Mullen already has another guy picked out and is on him hard!
