Didn’t watch last night, didn’t watch Louisville game. In 66 years I have rarely missed a game. Cal has destroyed the culture of Kentucky basketball. When the virus is over we can return to Memorial for games. It will most likely have more than enough seats as long as we have Cal as coach. 60-70% of loyal fans from Jenkins and Pikeville to Monkeys Eyebrow are finished with left wing Cal.

He actually isn’t wrong tho about a lot of rural KY fans being done with Cal. UK means A LOT to those fans and Cals politics along with his disregard for UKs history and traditions, plus roster turnover with little to show for it has put A LOT of fans off. These are the fans that would travel to watch UK instead of going to the beach For vacation. Everyone thinks that fans will automatically just show back up after COVID passes but that isn’t totally true. Poor product, loss of interest, changes in financial priorities will definitely affect fan participation and attendance. If UK thinks they can just easily sell the seats they have lost this season, I think they are sorely mistaken. People already weren’t filling Rupp before the pandemic. Now, with things as they are, it won’t be as easy to sell those seats. People in KY will still LOVE KY basketball, but they don’t have to love OR pay for a product that they don’t believe in anymore and that doesnt justify that extra cost. Apathy has set in across the fan base and as powerful as BBN can be, that power giveth and it taketh away as well.

But with this pile of manure we are seeing I figured Cal would be getting the realtor sign in the yard routine. And that was before they insulted a significant percentage of the state by kneeling.

I'm right there with you. Cal has destroyed our culture. The Caliparites can complain all they want but it is true. Rupp was never full the last year or so before covid. It will be much worse after covid. Like you, I've been a diehard for more than 4 decades, I'm an alumni, my wife and I used to stand outside Memorial regardless of the weather to get great seats. I even made a drive thru an ice storm for 14 hours (clear roads would be 9 hours) just to see the Wall/Cousins team play Vandy. Someone could give me free tickets now and I wouldn't bother if I was in Lexington. I often wonder if my deep love of UK basketball will ever come back. It's 100% on Cal and his total lack of concern for our program.

I root for what's on the floor. I could care less what anyone's politics is. I really think it's a bad thing to even talk about outside of the household and unless you got a whole lot of money, I highly doubt 98% of anything they do will have an impact on your daily life.

I don’t think fans made it political to start with. The current political Climate in this country and our coach’s own words have done that. Sports are what we enjoy to get AWAY from that ****. Fans don’t ever try to mix the two. As the great Althea Flynt once said, no one wants their religion and porn mixed. And no one wants their sports and their politics mixed either. If that makes me an “old” or whatever, so be it. The olds are what fill the $ seats in Rupp.

I think it's normal for fans to lose interest 3 to 4 years after the coach has. Here at Kentucky, it took 10 years.

I am a lifelong UK diehard. Graduated from the University, donate money to the university; worked for the university. Love it. I have lost interest for sure. I haven’t necessarily blamed it on Cal, and I support Cal often. That being said, I have lost interest. So maybe I have an issue with the way Cal is doing things and I just haven’t placed blame there yet? Don’t know exactly; but I never thought I would miss a game and not even know it, and that happened this season. Crazy. I turned the game off last night with plenty of time left, down 14. I just had enough. Maybe I should blame Cal, but I’m not there just yet. Has nothing to do with politics though, couldn’t care less about that or the kneeling. Just **** basketball.
