I was losing interest long before all this political nonsense started. Most people watch sports as an entertainment outlet that allows them to escape the pressures of their everyday lives. We have a totally new team every year, that is what has eroded interest along with often horrible basketball played the first 6 weeks or so till new guys learn to play with one another. Add to that this year where all this political BS gets added to the mix and you have the perfect storm for discontent from fan base. Ready for Cal and his woke NBA combine to hit the road, and I don’t CARE who they hire to replace him.

YES ! Disaffection for Calipari on this board has two completely separate aspects - his basketball coaching on the one hand, and his politics on the other. I'm not interested in reading a discussion about Calipari's politics. I think he's the best recruiter in college basketball, and I think he's an average, run-of-the-mill quality basketball coach ... and I think there's ample evidence over the years to support that proposition. And, frankly, I think that a great percentage of RR posters are incapable of separating their animosity toward Calipari's politics from their thoughts about his coaching ability - or lack thereof.
3 months ago I didn't know or care what Calipari's politics were. I still don't as long as he leaves them outside of Rupp.

I did care however that we lost 70-80% of our scoring year over year and we got thumped by Duke 2 years ago and embarrassed by Evansville on our own court last year.

COVID is never going to completely go away but once enough people get the vaccine we will go back to normal.
went to the eye doctor today and I realized this is the first time I've spent any time with a person outside my immediate family in about 3 months. Unfortunately this is starting to feel normal to me.

Same here. Outside the occasional doctor's visit, I haven't been around anyone outside of family in months.

I'm looking forward to people getting the vaccine and going back to normal.

It's funny that there's a lot of people making posts saying they are losing interest and for me it's weird cause I actually feel the opposite. At this point I just want to go to a ballgame whether that be UK or another sport I follow lol. I miss it.

If the internet had existed in the 50's there would have been similar fiery debates about allowing black people to play basketball at UK, attend all schools. sit at restaurant counters and drink out of water fountains.
The "I hate Cal and UK basketball now because they kneeled to draw attention to police brutality" crowd are on the wrong side of history.
And if you think their aren't police who still abuse black people in some communities, look no further than the Capitol police officers wearing MAGA hats and taking selfies with the terrorists that stormed the Capitol building.
Do you really believe if BLM had gathered by the thousands with guns, bombs, zip ties, ropes and BLM flags that they would have breached the Capitol without receiving any gun fatalities before they even entered? Think again.
Ya just don't wanna see it....any more than you wanna see that Trump is a narcissistic pathological liar who lost the election fair and square.
Unfortunately, most of our state has joined his nutty cult.
You might do a fact check on some of your lesser developed ideas. It is admirable that you have taken up a cause first brought to national attention and protested at length in the late 50s and 60s. Police brutality is one of those golden oldie moral causes that everyone can get behind. On the specifics, though, Go read the front page article in the Wash Post, April 27, 2016, about studies going back to the 70s that police were more hesistant to shoot blacks than every other race. It discussed one study which found that police were three times less likely to pull the trigger on a black than a white. Go read the study by the black Harvard economist which found the same thing, you can find it. Police shootings of unarmed blacks have stayed around 15-17 per year for the past 5 years. Go research that yourself. Black "Lives" are not BLM's main concern. BLM has collected 10 Billion Dollar$$ over hte past 3 years and they aren't sharing it with their local chapters, which has generated more than one lawsuit. BLM is a cash cow which has no basis in fact.
Sure, there are instances of police brutality for ALL races, however, BLM's phony suggestion that it is aimed at blacks is just bogus. There is no factual support for that proposition.

I'm right there with you. Cal has destroyed our culture. The Caliparites can complain all they want but it is true. Rupp was never full the last year or so before covid. It will be much worse after covid. Like you, I've been a diehard for more than 4 decades, I'm an alumni, my wife and I used to stand outside Memorial regardless of the weather to get great seats. I even made a drive thru an ice storm for 14 hours (clear roads would be 9 hours) just to see the Wall/Cousins team play Vandy. Someone could give me free tickets now and I wouldn't bother if I was in Lexington. I often wonder if my deep love of UK basketball will ever come back. It's 100% on Cal and his total lack of concern for our program.
The Wall/ Cousins team was a thing of beauty to watch. The good old days...and yes, I'm old...lol

I don’t care for either his politics or his coaching, so I guess I’m not one of the ones you’re talking about. My disdain for him started many years ago, way before his politics became a topic of discussion here. And I’m not alone. While I was already done with him, the politics pushed others over the edge. That edge ain’t near as fretful as it once was either. The bodies are piling up. And I’m hardly talking about internet posters such as you and I. I’m talking about people out in this state who have been fans their entire lives, regardless of age, who have abandoned ship. And the numbers are staggering and growing by the minute. We are living the end of the Cal era, the fans will eventually win out, they always do. Which is how it should be.

Well it's debatable who caused that trouble, but lets assume you're right.

Protesting getting shot for no reason when you're unarmed, or having a knee on your neck after you're subdued even if it involved some violence is totally different than trying to overthrow a democratic election, saying you're going to hang the vice president, breaking into the capitol and raiding congressional offices.

The trumpions can try to equate the two, but it's a non starter. Treason is much worse, period.

You mention treason? I sure wished Donald Trump Jr had not taken those millions from the Chinese and sold access to his dad's office. That was simply horrible and treasonous...

Oh wait that was the Biden's.....My bad.

At this point I almost hope Cal leaves and we get Pelphrey and we are so unbelievably bad. Because that’s exactly what will happen with whoever the next coach is. At least for the first 3 years and none of you are patient so good luck.

So what you are saying is we will have 1-6 starts, 4-7 records, lose games to our biggest rivals and maybe make the NIT?? Man, I cant imagine that happening at UK. No way!!

So says the white guy. It's not just about brutality. It's about targeting black drivers. It's about unequal treatment in the court system. It's about watching a white mob attack the Capitol knowing it would have been a different outcome if it had been thousands of dudes in turbins waving the Isis flag or thousands of blacks waving BLM flags...trying to overturn a democratic U.S. election result.
Just at least consider another perspective.

You lost interest but you took the time to make a thread on a UK basketball forum.

If 70% of our fans have lost interest because of a bad year then screw em, they weren't really fans anyway. Jesus, last year we were a 2 seed. I'd bet most lost interest because the racists don't want to kids peacefully protesting injustice. But hey, that's just me (and the rest of the country outside of KY).
" racists don't want to kids peacefully protesting injustice". Really?? I think people are sick of the false claim that police brutality is more likely to happen to blacks. Go read my other post which mentioned the front page article in the Wash Post, April 27, 2016. It discussed studies going back to the 70s that police were more hesistant to shoot blacks than every other race. Go do some research. The NYTimes ran an indentical front page article in 2016.
BLM's big lie is that violent police brutality is more likely to happen to blacks. Their defense of that claim is "you're a racist if you fail to agree." Their other defense is people liike you who scream "racist." I'm not saying that BLM defenders are low information types, I'm just saying their information is not factual. I think we'd all be happy to hear some empirical evidence that blacks are more likely to be victims of deadly brutality at the hands of police.

BLM and antifa burned cities all year, what are you babbling about.
I never said that was ok. I also don't remember Joe Biden giving speeches to any of those BLM crowds right before they attacked police stations. I don't remember Biden telling them he "loves them" after they killed a cop and chanted "hang Mike Pence". I don't remember hearing Bidens political partners yelling for "Combat justice" as they were together on stage at a BLM rally.
I don't remember Biden lying to large crowds of angry black people and telling them that the mayor in the building down the street has the power to overturn elections of people they don't support in their city and to march there in order to put Biden back in charge of everything.
That, not independent riots, would be the equivalent to what Trump did.

Trump didn't direct them to do anything. March with "strength" is not, riot and attack. You liberals are nuts. However, I specifically remember Kamala encouraging the violence, or at best, she spoke very poorly since the protests and violent riots were intermingled. She's a whacko idiot. This is her quote "In a June 2020 interview, U.S. Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris said of the nationwide anti-police brutality protests: “Everyone beware. They're not gonna stop before election day in November, and they're not gonna stop after election day ... They’re not gonna let up, and they should not.”

She was committing a crime so I don't feel sorry for her.
And the Antifa thugs who were..1. Attempting to burn down the federal courthouse were just innocent bystanders? 2. The people who were looting businesses, bashing innocent motorists trying to drive on public roads? 3. The thugs blinding federal officers with high powered lasers?

DID ANY OF THEM GET SHOT? No. Got any other weak sauce?

Biden never had a large crowd. Biden called Antifa "an idea." He ignored the violence from the comfort of his basement until it became apparent the riots were polling poorly.

" It's about watching a white mob attack the Capitol knowing it would have been a different outcome if it had been thousands of dudes in turbins waving the Isis flag "

As far as the ISIS flagflag carriers in your hypothetical, I guess so, and hope so. As far as your general proposition, the last time the gov't fired into a crowd of protestors was Kent State, and all those killed were white, IIRC. I don't recall in the Rodney King riots that police went in guns blazing, but your premise of "imagine if thousands of BLM supporters...." could be correct. Yet, it didn't happen during the hundreds of Antif and BLM riots last year.

The police even showed restraint when Antifa/BLM sympathizers tried to firebomb federal courthouses in Philadelphia and Portland on New Year's Eve.

As far as "watching a white mob attack the Capitol ", the bigger question there is why there was the lack of police presence. The gov't and half the internet knew exactly what was planned. Why did the polce fail to ramp up and intentionally let that happen? There were plenty of available police, and they showed up 45 minutes late and ran the protestors/rioters out. The story the pols are trying to tell is that only the Nat Guard could have stopped it and no one called them in. I guess that's a good enough story for those who don't like the question.

AOC and CNN/CBS cheered them on and covered for. Biden covered for them bysaying antifa was am idea. Lol funny an idea gets a bunch of idiot kids to dress in black and simultaneously and spontaneously riot.

You must have been in a come for the last 4 years then. Bernie bro shot up a baseball field full of republicans. All of those Dems inciting their followers to confront Republicans in public places and create dangerous environments. All the Trump supporters who have been attacked and beat up for 4 years.
You're either clueless about what has been going on since was elected 4 years ago or you're a completely dishonest person.
