Sorry I'm a little bit of a Marshall fan. They're right behind UK for me. UK is 1 and Marshall is 1a. So in saying that, I'd like to think I know a little bit about the team. The 2 biggest seniors they lose is Remi Watson and Devin Johnson. Devin was hurt a lot last year and didn't really play much so that W/L column is kind of skewed. In saying that, I don't really know if he would've been the X factor to turn those losses into wins anyway. Both of those key players are also running backs. They do have several key players that will be Seniors in 2016, but not many in 2015. I think most Marshall fans knew that 2015 was going to be a rebuilding year after losing Cato and several key players in 2014. We weren't really expecting much last year.

They have had a little bit of an issue at QB, but have a pretty good stockpile of talent there. As usual, they will most certainly air it out and have an explosive offense next year. I just don't understand why you think Marshall lost a lot on either side of the ball in 2015 because it just isn't true.

Louisville is going to have to bring their 'A' game to have a shot and even then I highly doubt they win in Huntington.

I think UL goes 7-5 and I believe that was my prediction for 2015 as well.

I see losses to FSU and Clemson and Houston.

I see 2 more losses from the group of @UVA, @Cuse, UK, NC St, and @Marshall.

This prediction assumes that UL keeps Lamar Jackson healthy (not a given, knowing that he has a pretty slight build and likes to run a lot). If not, then we could see .500 or worse.

Yeah, predictions have to include Jackson staying healthy. If he gets hurt, they may struggle mightily on offense.

Low end for most going into 2016...the combined Way Too Early Polls have Louisville @ 21st-(Done by SB Nation).

Looking at returning players for Louisville from their last game...10 Offensive and 8 Defensive...not going to say for certain but that is likely one of the highest of any in a P5 league especially a Bowl Team.

Going 9-3 this year....Ceiling 10-2 Floor 7-5...last year went with a ceiling of 9-3 and floor of 7-5 with a predicted record of 8-4 in 2015. Sneaking good schedule this year...outside of Clemson, Florida State and Houston @ Marshall because of schedule position...on the road at Virginia and home at Duke...NC State is replacing their QB-(who is having a good Senior Bowl week btw)...

Although Burgess and Vatuvei were good players, Louisville has the pieces in their program to replace them. Sheldon Rankins is another story. That guy was a stud, and far better than many across the country know because he played for "Louisville." I'm sure the scouts know about him, and I think he'll likely be Louisville's next 1st rounder. But those people who don't know of him will know soon as ESPN guys Kiper & co. noticing him in Senior Bowl practices, combine, & other workouts, and start moving him up their draft boards. It's coming, because he is legit. So that kid likely "won't" be replaced by one guy next year, and his loss will be felt.

Everybody else is back, so I doubt you see the defense do anything but stay about the same, or move forward.

As am I. I thought Kentucky should've beaten Louisville this year, but they didn't. I'd like to think the biggest reason for the loss was due to our coaching inexperience. Also, Marshall has a very experienced staff compared to Kentucky, too.

Marshall should be MUCH improved next year. I haven't seen their schedule yet, but they play nothing but cupcakes in conference which is why I've said they need to leave to the Big East/AAC for years. They'll be the favorite to win their conference, yet again next year. At this point, I'm honestly surprised there are any Louisville fans that don't already consider this game as a loss. I know most said they would after their last loss to The Herd.

Rankins was special and should get rewarded in the draft. He will likely not be "replaced."

Yes we did and you've said the same thing you did then, too. It was ludicrous then and its ludacris now. One thing I can assure you is that Marshall won't have this game circled. They've beaten far better teams than Louisville and know they'll probably beat them again. I'll honestly be surprised if Louisville keeps it within 2-3 scores, much less wins the game. For some reason Marshall is Louisville's krypton it's just like Tennessee is Kentucky's. Louisville just doesn't beat Marshall. It just doesn't happen.

Trust me. Marshall didn't lose much talent from last years team and expects to have a very good team in 2016 because of it.

1998 Marshall was the better team in John L. Smith first year.
2002 Again Marshall was the better team Louisville had a huge distraction....John L. Leaving for Michigan State at Half Time announcement.

This is 2016...again tough game but if Marshall wins it will be considered by everyone a upset. As you said you are a Marshall guy and up front with it.

Marshall has always had the better team when they've played since 1980. Finally, there is nothing you've been able to show me to make me think any differently about 2016. Also, I believe Louisville got all their all time wins vs Marshall During the era that Marshall considered the worst D1 team because of the plane crash, but I'm not totally sure about that. That's when a lot of lower level teams like Louisville were able to pad their record vs. Marshall.

If you've literally been undefeated against a team for 35 years, I'd think you'd expect a victory against them, too.

Just doesn't really apply to 2016...one school will start the year in the Top 25-(Louisville)....Marshall will not...the answer will come in September..but make no mistake Vegas will have the Herd as underdogs at home

Rankins is projected by McShay to go in Round One...that is going to be a tough one to replace. G.G. Robinson and the JuCo Chris Williams have huge shoes to fill.

There's a huge reason Louisville is starting the year in the Top 25 and Marshall isn't. Louisville played a much tougher schedule last year than Marshall. Marshall plays in a cream puff conference, even by their standards. That's another reason why they need to get out of CUSA. As far as the underdog role, they might very well be. However, I highly doubt it will be by anymore than 3-4.

I may be wrong, but I could have sworn that you said 8-4 was the floor this year b/c you had to come back here and do a mea culpa after the first three games...

No....it was 9-3 ceiling and 7-5 floor in 2015...I predicted 8-4 for the regular season in 2015...I changed it later to 5-7 floor after the 0-3 start....had losses against Auburn, FSU, Clemson and a split between, NC State & Pitt...was concerned about Houston because of where it was in the schedule but didn't see it as a loss.

This year ceiling 10-2 and floor 6-6-(change from above post) going 9-3 for my prediction...This is barring injury especially at QB for 2016...losses for 2016 are FSU, Clemson and Houston...games for concern are @ Virginia, Duke @ Marshall & anything can happen rivalry weekend against Kentucky but like our chances at home this year against the Wildcats.

I had thought Marshall would give them a game until this weekend. Now I'm expecting a blowout. And it won't be the Herd on top. Marshall is not as good as expected, and Louisville is much, much better.

Yes, and the other part of the post, about Louisville not being able to beat Marshall in 35 years with some of the best teams UofL has ever had should be re-examined as well.... UofL has only played Marshall 4 times since 1981. In 1987 (Schnellenberger's second year) we lost 34-31. That UofL team went 3-7-1. In 1998, we lost 48-29 in the Motor City Bowl. That UofL team went 7-5. In 2002, we lost 38-15 in the GMAC Bowl. That team went 7-6. And in 2011, we lost at home 17-13. That team also went 7-6. So none of those teams were "some of the best teams UofL has ever had."

Schedule is absolute dog doody outside of 3 games (FSU, Clemson, and Houston). It's like they're back in Conference USA or the Big East again. And yes, UK is one of those dog doody teams. LOL.

As it stands now, Louisville will play three of the top six teams in the nation in FSU #2, Clemson #5 and Houston #6. Name another team in college football that will face the same?
