I think they are looking primarily of 2 things, wins against ranked opponents and losses to unranked opponents.
I'm confused what this thread is about. What is the OSU debacle? I agree with the poster who said who else would you put in ahead of them?
I really have no problem with the Playoff teams based on how the season eventually ended up. 3 conference champions and Ohio State.
I also believe Louisville could potentially go to the Playoff next year with 1 loss, depending on who the loss is to, and with winning the ACC Championship in spite of the loss, like Clemson did this year.
It didn't hurt Washington. They played 2-10 Rutgers, 8-4 Idaho, and 3-8 Portland State.IDK..... I think 12-1 with ACC championship would get us in.
One thing this season has proven is that you do get punished for weak OOC schedule. Ours needs an upgrade. No more Charlottes. Our OOC has to be good because the bottom of our division in the ACC really drags down our SOS.
Starting with Purdue next year is an upgrade over Charlotte.
Year after that is Bama.![]()
Troll post. If we beat Houston and UK we are in.The OSU debacle shows that the bluebloods and big boys are going to get the bids.
That is true. PSU did lose two games. PSU also beat OSU head to head, AND won the B1G conference championship game which OSU didn't even get to play in.PSU lost 2 games Kerry.

No they weren't. OSU was ranked 6th in the first playoff poll and had already lost to Penn State. On the surface, seeing OSU make the playoffs despite not winning their conference looks weird. But, they were an original top 4 when the rankings were first released and did their part to remain in contention. Head to head just isn't that important, so we've falsely been led to believe. UofL beat FSU. Doesn't matter. FSU gets the Orange. OSU lost to PSU. Doesn't matter. OSU makes the playoffs.

A very good article. I still think that what happened this year will force the expansion to 6 or 8 teams to happen sooner rather than later. I mean we have the B1G champion sitting at home watching a team they beat playing for the chance at a national championship from their own conference. I also think it's safe to say the B1G had the best football conference from top to bottom this past season. Here's a pretty good article on why the committee got it right:

Injuries need to be considered too. PSU had a TON of injuries to key players the week leading up to playing Michigan. Once they got healthy, they started playing as well as anyone in the country and isn't that what we're supposed to see playing today for the championship? The 4 teams playing the best football? It's really hard to say PSU isn't one of those 4.Penn State lost to Michigan by 39. Thirty nine!
I'll go out on a limb and say no team will ever lose a game by that many points and qualify for the playoff that year.

Teams in the playoffs have been blown out in 4 of the 6 games by scores of
39,38,22, and 20.
I want to see 8 teams myself. I want to see the power 5 conference champions and 3 at-large teams. I think that is about as fair as it can get. That way, like this year, a team like USC, Penn State, or even Michigan might qualify for a second shot at a national championship.Same thing will probably happen this year with Alabama in there.
And obviously, I meant a regular season loss.
Cue, to your point, it's a tough discussion. Alabama clearly belongs in, and I think you can make the argument that Clemson also absolutely belongs.
I've got no dogs in the fight but if you forced me to pick the next 2 best teams, it's probably OSU and Michigan. Hell, USC is probably playing better than anyone not named Alabama right now.
I look at it this way - back in the old days before I started losing hair and gaining weight, we had the old Bowl Coalition tie-ins, where the best 2 teams wouldn't even play each other in the post season - we complained, and eventually got the BCS. We complained some more, and now we have 4 teams. I personally think 4 is enough. No matter how many teams get in, there will always be someone on the outside looking in who thinks they belong.
So if a 12-1 Louisville team wins the ACC Title game and is passed over the playoffs for a 11-1 FSU team , whos only lost is to Louisville? never going to happen, right ?
Happen to Penn state.
Hell, it happened to UofL in the Orange bowl 'selection'
My issue is that it's only 4 teams, which is ridiculous.I think if Louisville doesn't lose to Houston and UK, they get into the playoff. They were ranked that way at least. It would have come down to Washington or Louisville and I think a team with the Heisman winner would get the nod.
I don't have a single issue with the playoffs this year. From a fan perspective, I don't think Washington is that good and I wanted Michigan to have beaten OSU and get into the playoff but it played out as best as it could to avoid controversy. If you're Penn State, you can't really argue because you have more losses than the other four teams that got in.
IDK..... I think 12-1 with ACC championship would get us in.

We'll never know, but from the way it turned out I think you're mistaken.Troll post. If we beat Houston and UK we are in.
