Didn't matter. Ohio State had no timeouts. Better to let them heave a half-court shot for the win, or let them run an out-of-bounds set for a better look at a tie? Probably a toss-up.

Save the made FT for when it matters.

Had it been two shots, it would have been better to miss the second and milk a bit off the clock compared to having the ball inbounded.

But yeah, our point guard needs to make FT down the stretch. Most likely player to get fouled in the final moments

The guy was twisted around like a pretzel nabbing the previous rebound and had a noticeable limp after.

Completely understandable.
Well, to be fair, it is the second time in crunch time he hasn't hit his FT. But that Rebound is what won the game so this one ....

Yeah, I guess I’m still hurting from the ones he missed at the end of the Pitt game. Lost an office bet on that one.

He has struggled hitting FTs late but what is great is that has not kept him from making huge plays to help us win late including today's 3 pt shot. He plays with so much confidence it's beautiful to watch.

How about making a crunch time free throw? Today’s miss probably drained a second or two, but jeez!

Buie was back on the court shooting free throws minutes after the game.
He clearly does not miss them because he’s afraid. Kid has more confidence than 99% of players out there. It’s either:
1) in his head
2) most likely just sheer dumb luck it happened already twice

Boo is definitely fearless. This was a weird game because I can't remember us missing so many shots that just rimmed out or went in and out. It happened to Kopp, Young, Buie, and others. And as a team, we missed 2-shot free throws twice, Beran and Audige, that I think we normally make. So to overcome all that was impressive.

The up side is getting better at free throws is probably the easiest thing to correct. When I was first out of college, I got a job teaching 6th grade. I had an hour lunch break every day and the school was in the middle of nowhere. Every day I shot 100 free throws. Because I was bored I kept track of my progress. I went for 50% to 80% . If I can do it, anyone can.

Buie is MVP easy. Not just because he puts the ball in the basket but he’s able to penetrate and the ball movement is superior when he’s out there. Makes everything move so much more efficiently.

Nance is probably #2 because he can do everything maybe Kopp because of how much he means offensively.

Boo needs to be lock down on free throws if he is to get a look at the next level. Only a handful of PGs make it each year but he can get himself into the conversation. This is premature for a team that lost 17 of the last 23 BIG games,but his all out style of play makes him the right PG at the right time for NU. He is game tough on a young team. LIke Berry too. Please note how hard he is cheering his team mates from the bench. This team has chemistry

The real game winner was the steal of the final PSI rebound. That too was Bouie.
It appeared the tall Buckeye committed the sin of bringing the ball low, possibly even trying a one-bounce dribble. Seldom a good move for a big guy to create a steal opportunity for someone the size of Boo.

80+% the rest of the game and missed 3 close out FTs at the end of games

It drained at least 2.8 seconds. Getting the RB and getting fould took it to the other end of the court to FT line and dOSU had to take it from there to get up a shot

I'm with Team Boo up there!! He's my guy!!

* Averaging 14 ppg with a ceiling of 20+ on some nights
* Generally under control and managing a game with 32-12 a/to
* Ability to create his own shot while also shooting 50% from 3
* GREAT court vision
* Yes, still some inconsistencies
* Some desperately needed attitude
* Six games into his sophomore year?!?!

Yea, I will take that every time at NU.

If ever there was a time I'd be okay with missing a front end of a one and one, it was then. OSU had no chance to get anything better than a half court heave and had he made both, OSU almost certainly would've gotten a better shot with the ability to pass up court from the inbounds. Buie was outstanding and I'm thrilled at his progress as well as the team's.

While I wish Buie had made the free throws, I love two things:
1. Coach Collins encouraging him after the game as he hugged him, “You won the game for us! You won the game for us!” It was clear that Buie was upset at himself for missing the free throws, and Collins knew he needed to be encouraged. It’s easy to see why his players love playing for him.
2. Buie practicing free throws afterwards. Gotta love the kid’s attitude. He knows that he can’t afford to miss free throws like that and immediately started the work to improve himself. I love it!

Go Cats!

I have a similar story; went from around 50% to hitting 50 in a row once. You and I, sir, are proof that it definitely can be done.

He's not a horrible free throw shooter to begin with. When all is said and done, he'll have hit them at better than a 70% clip for his Wildcat career.

Boo still has flaws in his game, but we are already seeing a big jump forward from last season.

Boo is a complete gamer and the program will have him for 2, if not 3 more seasons.

Well Gaines is the one who caused the steal - he knocked the ball away. But Boo was the one who recovered the loose ball after that. Gaines has had a ton of deflections on D the last few games - sometimes he gets credit for the steal himself, other times someone else (whoever recovers it) gets the credit. Either way, he's playing well on that side of the ball.

Wonder how our PG situation would be if Lathon had not been a numbnuts on campus. Just kidding. Wondering about Cormac Ryan and Charlie Moore as we were courting both.

Ryan has been a bit underwhelming at ND. Still early to judge.

Moore, really believe we dodged a bullet. A “me first” guard. Very talented but does not do more than pretend to play defense. In his defense, maybe with another coach it would be different

While true that you can improve by practicing, just practicing FTs with no pressure and not tired is not the same thing as at the end of the game with the game on the line

In my time , after we played 5 on 5 for 20 or so minutes, we would then lineup and shoot 30-50 free throws. our gym hand 6 baskets.
