......and the thing of it is too. I would not be suprised if Byrne took this idea and ran with it. Such as a banner somewhere if more banners are added.

The day that Mississippi State won a national championship in football.

The season started with a defensive struggle, we were able to beat Florida 6-0 at Scott Field.
A 14-0 win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa a week later. This season was going to be magical.
We played LSU to a 0-0 tie in Baton Rouge, we just can't get over the LSU jinx, but everyone was excited. This defense had played three SEC powerhouses and had not yielded a single point.
Homecoming vs. Union University. We did what we should have done. 56-7 over an inferior opponent. No one had scored on our first team defense.
We went to Memphis to take on Rhodes, and come back with a 20-6 victory.
We took a trip to the plains of Alabama and gave up our first score to an SEC team, yet won 14-7 over Auburn.
A battle of unbeatens and a rematch of a recent Orange Bowl - the Maroons could not get anything done against Duquense, and lost 16-0.
Came hope to face Millsaps and won 49-6, then completed an undefeated SEC season by defeating Ole Miss, 6-0 in Oxford.

Our damn athletic director scheduled a non-conference road game against West coast power San Francisco on December 6. We won 26-13, but the next day, Pearl Harbor was bombed. We were unable to return to Mississippi to accept the Sugar Bowl invite. The Sugar Bowl instead invited Alabama, who went on to win the game against Texas A&M and be declared national champions five years later (even though Duquense finished 8-0)

Great bait for to get some crazy 'bammers over here. Hopefully, will result in a classic thread. That's assuming your traditional bear defender has interwebs access.

We couldnt accept the Sugar Bowl invite since we were stuck in San Fransisco and that was because the Pearl Harbor bombing just occurred? The one chance we had at the Sugar Bowl was snafued by Pearl-freakin-Harbor. holy ****, we really are snake bit.

Curious though, was LT our AD back then too? Could they not telegraph our invite? Was it so critical to get our response ASAP that they couldnt wait? Were they afraid we would decline it? Seriously, WTF?!?!?

lots of males at Mississippi A&M were military - we were going to war and unable to accept because our boys were going to war.

In a five year span, we had won the SEC championship and played in two Orange Bowls. Then WWII happened and we went to the *******.
In a four year span from 1997-2000, we won three bowl games, an SEC West championship, then 9/11 happened and we went to the *******.

If MSU has 4-5 years of substained success, America is punished with a catastrophic event.

68 years later, a real internet site awarded us a national championship. Look up- there's a banner and everything. Alabama's championship wasn't awarded until five years later - we were just late to the party.

I do know that I'd be more than willing to put your theory to the test over the next 4-5 years (and beyond).

2012 will be the season. We will be picked to play in the BCS National Championship game in January, and on December 21, POOF.

the entire '41 team volunteered for the Army within days of the attack. They were probably all in boot camp by the time the game was played.

Edited to add: I went online to try to find some info to back up my claim, which I was unable to do, but I did find this interesting account of the game against San Fransisco that year. Link (pdf)
