The fact that a prominent media figure is even considering us to beat the #15 team in country is huge. This would have never happened 3 years ago.<div>Even though our record isn't stellar,at leastthe some of the media is thinking we are "turning the corner". </div><div>Being a legitimate team in the media's eyes is huge. Hearing analyst open up a debate with the phrase "this is good Mississippi State team..." means a lot in momentum game. </div>
We had that when we were on several columnists/sports hosts preseason upset watch for both the Bama and LSU games. Now with the 0-3, likely 0-4 SEC start we are back to "same ol MSU" status. While a win against SC would be great, it doesn't bring us nearly back all the hype we had coming off the bowl win. At this point, the only thing that can be done to get attention again outside the SEC is to start winning at home, and to pull off a win against Auburn, Arkansas, LSU, or Bama.
I'm not saying that 6-6 and bowling isn't a step forward. LT and his cronies should have followed this model long ago. 4 winnable OOC games and 2 wins in the conference. Kentucky built a streak doing the same thing and saved Rich Brooks job and allowed him to retire a winner. I'm just saying that the small window of national respect was open for just a moment and we lost it after the Auburn game. Dan's going to have to pick up the recruiting and beat some teams he's not supposed to beat to regain any of that.
