MSU is the only SEC school not to finish in the top 75 schools for merchandise. Behind such powerhouses as New Mexico, Delaware, and Texas State - San Marcos..

How the <17> does that happen?

Merchandise Rankings

I think this is just for one quarter, but still..

Also, do you want the maroon shirt or the Alabama crimson maroon shirt?

With the caveat being that Iknow nothing about this, from the outside looking in, the decision by Lonnie Tinkle or Jackie or whoever to flip Nike the bird and push the first M-State logo (and Russell) way back when is the reason nothing sales. Adidas isnt going to make that much of a difference. I do like the newer logo Mstate logo more and understand that we would be the only "M-State," but Nike is the company we need to do business with to build that brand. Who does K-State's apparrel and merchandising?

I would guess that Nike's cut in these merchandising agreements is so large that the school must make more money now than they did then or we'd be back with them.

Ihate that all our stuff looks like crap now. 96 was a terrific year when all the Nike stuff came out. Bring it back.

a shirt that said Russell Athletic. I thought they looked cheap. The Adidas shirts look so much better.

Why aren't we, and are there advantages of being licensed (represented ?) by them.
Just looking through the list, there are also some Big10 schools not here (OSU, MSU, IU) that have tons of students and I'm assuming sell boatloads of merchandising, so it's not like we're the only BCS-conference school not represented on this list.
But hey, why not just go with the sportswriter knee-jerk (assumptions are fun!) angle here while we're at it, and say that DELAWARE MERCHANDISE IS MORE POPULAR THAN OHIO STATE AND SOUTHERN CAL ...COMBINED!!!!

They're a huge improvement from Russell and are in the same class as Nike and Under Armour. Obviously, Nike is at the top of that class, but we'll have good products and marketing from Adidas.

When USM affiliated with the CLC and then got hooked up with Nike, the quality and choice of apparel improved a lot. Going to the brighter yellow-gold helped too. Before, there were any number of shades of gold in USM gear. We weren't called "mustard buzzards" for no good reason. Now the gear is something you want to wear, not wear out of obligation. But I don't have a $78K car.

Also, not being able to sell tournament or post season apparel, since our teams have sucked does not help.

He took a shot at State for being lower than Delaware without knowing what he was talking about. RETRACTION TIME.

He's just trying to bash Veazey because he has an irrational inferiority complex towards the media. RETRACTION TIME!!!

Something like, "To clarify, State is not in the CLC so my comment about them being less popular than Delaware isn't truthfully accurate." That allows him to admit a mistake without actually retracting it.

based on an erroneous report on ESPN.com that was a misinterpretation of a press release from a licensing company. If there's any resemblance to actual journalism or standards, I sure can't find it.
I say we file this one in the ever-widening "Chris Low is a moron" file and move on.

also disagree that it doesn't tie back to journalism. Journalist ethics is no longer in ink and paper, as we move forward in a technological world, blogs and tweets now become part. I feel this is especially true if said blogs and tweets are tied back to a "supposed" journalist entity such as the Clarion-Ledger. Veazey links his blog and tweets back to the paper so they should be held to the same standard as to what he writes for the paper. Technically they are published information from the Clarion-Ledger. If he wants to use @kyleveazey for his personal tweets then it should not be linked to the C-L website and presented as a representation of the C-L. I mainly have a burr cause he prides himself on journalist ethics, but this coupled with the Pony incidentproves otherwise.

Now that I said all that, understand I see it as splitting a frogs hair.

Here's aLISTof their clients and Mississippi State University is not one. The University of Mississippi is, however.

We listed earlier this week where the SEC teams ranked amongCollegiate Licensing’s top sellersfor the second quarter in 2009, which was the bulk of the football season.

Mississippi State was not on that list because the Bulldogs are a client of Licensing Resource Group (LRC), which also has Ohio State and Southern California among its clients.

According to officials at LRC, Mississippi State has made significant increases in the past two years in terms of sales and is currently one of its top producers.
