These two schools reach the state title game in completely different ways. Loyola undefeated and nationally ranked taking on a Marist team that finished 5-4 in regular season, snuck into the playoffs and have just been on fire since then. I strongly think this game will be a lot closer and more enjoyable then some may think. But we will see Saturday night at Huskie stadium

Well I watched the Marist-WV game live (on TV) and I thought Marist sure looked like they belong. I hope it's a great game.

I want to see a competitive game. I'm just having trouble seeing how Marist's defense will slow down Loyola. And Loyola will limit Marist's prolific offense. But, that's why they play the games. We shall see.

BTW....I watched the Marist / WV game too. And congrats to WV for making a nice run. But, did anyone else ask himself how in the world NC lost to WV twice while viewing the semi game?

Maybe the snow effected WV game more than Marist, I don't know, but it wasn't the game I expected.

I agree, I am a homer for Marist for sure especially with them making a run, but I was at the game Saturday, and never felt like WV was a major threat in the game. Congrats to WV on good season but I felt like Marist really controlled the game. There defense really has stepped up since the Barrington game.

WV was pretty un-impressive from a physical standpoint. Small, not real fast. However, they ran the option game well, had a good running QB, and the dominak kid at LB and Ihry at LB tackle everything, and the kids don't miss assignments. Frankly, I think it was a team that doesn't make mistakes, and just plays their game to kill the clock and shorten the game. I think that team really tapped out the most of its talent.

I heard they had 8 soph's playing on Saturday, program to watch in the future IMO.

I was wondering whole time how WV was an 8A semi team.

^^ I posed the same question last week on how WV beat NC. Nobody could answer and other than the proverbial "having a great playoff run" answer, I didn't see it either.

Marist from the beginning looked like the better team, bad coaching decisions by WV throughout the game did not help. There were obvious adjustments they could have made on offense that they never went back too. Marist had trouble stopping their option wrinkle rarely went to it in the 2nd half, 88 should of had a lot more targets. 3rd down play calling was awful. Even with all that Marist was the better team, wv just didnt help themselves.

As for the game this weekend, its going to be a repeat of Montini vs JCA a couple years ago. I expect LA to be full control of the game but the final score to be something like 70-52.

I expect the game to be close in the 4th quarter but Loyola with a late lead. Loyola goes conservative and Marist has a chance to win the game...

As a BR supporter, it pains me to say this but congrats to Marist for reaching the title game. However, I'm quite confident Loyola will take care of business and win, comfortably. That bottom bracket was up for grabs from the get go and I'm not all that surprised Marist advanced considering their path. Great QB play can take you a long ways -- but their losses to MC, Benet, Naz and JC prove they've struggled with physical teams who have speed, too.

Loyola will do a much better job of spying Skalitzky on his runs and their O will move the ball without much trouble. Marist will need some trickeration (which Dunne won't hesitate) to keep it close.

I'll second ESCC fan prediction -- 35-14

Is it week 1 yet?

WV never adjusted to the Marist QB keeper. LA will do it after a couple of plays. LA has a better defense and a better passing game, LA by 14.

In a lot of ways LA was in a very similar situation two years ago. We had a very good defense and an extremely smart qb running the offense. We had already defeated the Goliath of that year, MC, in a highly anticipated two day thriller.

Naperville Central was a 3 or 4 loss team after going through the DVC gauntlet. Marist reminds me of them. NC's qb was the best athlete on the field. The combination of his playmaking ability and a few costly turnovers, including the field goal block that was scooped and scored cost LA that game.

I expect a very close game on Saturday. LA will have to play mistake free in order to win, which we are capable of but haven't done in the last two weeks.

Looks like the latest weather forecast as of now is 41H/31L for DeKalb Saturday so things are improving from the ice bowl of last week.

For years we have been told of the greatness of the CCL Blue. I have even heard one of their propaganda ministers say it may be one of the best conferences in the nation during one of their televised games during the regular season. There are 5 teams in this amazing conference. Loyola destroyed the other four with no problem. Every other team in the state of Illinois is either afraid to join the conference or is deemed unworthy to be the sixth team in the CCL Blue. They have the best head coach in the state without a state title.

And then we have....

Marist. This is a team that finished SIXTH in the ESCC, a conference that exists in the shadows of the CCL Blue. That is in the bottom half of the standings, behind five smaller schools. They have multiple losses to little 5A schools, including one in which they allowed 62 points.

Would this be the biggest loss in the history of the Chicago Catholic League if Loyola does not win?

Actually, it is a FACT to say they finished in sixth in the ESCC. It could be called disingenuous if I said Marist was the sixth-best team, which I did not.

By the way....seriously... you want to answer my question about this being the biggest loss in CCL history if it happens?

If, and it's one of the biggest ifs ever, Marist can pull off the upset, then yes, I would say biggest upset in the last 20 years in the CCL, maybe longer.

Maybe in the last 10 years.

Take your pick of Rita losses between Kenwood and CVS in the 80s for biggest loss. The Bloomington loss when they had Weyer and Kafka would also be up there.

Mt. Carmel losing to DLS in 93 was really bad, but that was to another CCL team.

That Bloomington game was a doozie. They had a fast team. Weyer was a phenom. Gave Lenti nightmares.

A few different reasons
-travel .. ESCC is all over the place
-it's more appealing for neighborhood kids to go to a school that plays other neighborhood schools or against kids they grew up with.
