Loyola and opponents over the last decade

I'm sitting here watching the LWE/Loyola game from last season (great game) and it has me thinking

Over the last decade or so I think Loyola has been the most consistent program in the state meaning it's difficult for me to tell which teams were better than which teams.

So I am looking for those in the know to rank them by year starting in 2008.

That said I'd also like to see who people think we're their best 10 opponents in that same time span. Obviously a lot of Maine South will be in that list.

I may try my hand at ranking them but not right away. I think you CCL guys probably know better than the rest of us.

2015
2011 (that was one of the best hs defenses I've ever seen. Unfortunately, Aaron Bailey was on the other side of the field)
2012 (lost to JJ’s GBN team
2013
2010 (damn you hawks!)
2016 (damn you hawks!)
2017 (very young team and lots of injuries. This 2018 squad is loaded, big, fast and angry. I bet they run the table this year.)
2009 (damn you hawks!)
2014 ( with their 4th string QB vs. Stevie in the quarters and almost pulled it out. Went on to smoke BR in the PB playoffs after rice fans acted like they won a state championship week 3.)
2008 (damn you hawks!)

I think the forgoing is accurate. Ramblin, please edit accordingly.

That 2012 team was no joke. Hell of a game between them and Palatine in the qtrs.

I hope the MS folks on the board know that the “damn you Hawks” is meant in jest and with reverence. Huge respect for the Hawks! Rice supporters. That’s another story.

Interested in your opinion and @MWittman

I was more than half serious when I was referring to my feeble memory.

There are guys on this board who can recall a particular team from 20 years ago and what woulda coulda shoulda. I'm definitely not one of those guys. LA was in the title game last year, and I can give you the name of just one player (Hamid Bullie) on that team off the top of my head. Don't even try asking me about ten years ago.

I am always reading a book, but don't ask me the book title, 'cuz I rarely know it. Most of the time, I can't tell you the author.

It's really bad.

Bones:

I, too, struggle with memory and I also suffer from an acute lack of objectivity. Since I tend to have a greater affection for LA teams which include the sons of friends as opposed to teams which outperform others, I would like you to afford me some liberty here.

2009
2015
2011
2016
2017
2010

2008

During this time span, I would say Maine South has simultaneously been LA's greatest opponent and greatest nemesis.

Stevenson, H-F, Glenbard North, and Dallas Jesuit have also caused fits for us, even though we split with the Patriots and Panthers and dismissed what one ignoble poster described as the greatest teams in the history of mankind, HF, in the only meeting between the teams.

Within the CCL orbit, games with Mount Carmel have furnished some of the most exciting moments I can recall, often with games extending into overtime.

I'm going to try my hand this weekend. I wish Comcast would put that HF game on YouTube as it was one of the most exciting games I've seen.

Okay, I watched some games I could find to jog my memory...

1. 2016 - I am still surprised by the outcome of the championship game, but this team was just dominant in every game except the last. According to my eye this was the best team.

2. 2015 - The championship team. I liked the resiliency of this squad. I had that H-F game over then they go on that 97 yard march. One of the best games I ever saw if not the best.

2011 - I think this was the most balanced team of the bunch with offense vs defense and then 4 legit threats at WR. Wish the championship game could have been in better weather for both teams, as it was an ugly game because of the rain.

2009 - Played a really good Maine South to a 1 score game; that MS dominated everyone else on the schedule.

this is where it started to get hard for me

2013 - Not sure how they dropped that one to NC, but up to that point they looked like the heavy favorite.

2017 - Battling injury all year we'll never how how good they could have been. Have to give LWE credit for playing the championship game with grit and pulling it out.

2014 - Really good team gave the champs either their toughest or 2nd toughest game. Just a bad early playoff matchup for them.

2008
2012
2010 - I thought this was a really weak year in 8A, period.

opponents (in no order)
2009 MS
2014 Stevie
2015 H-F
2011 'Brook
2017 LWE
2015 Palatine
