Loyola announcing Hometowns?

I thought it was ridiculous this weekend that members of the Loyola Ramblers were asked what their hometowns were in the post game press conference. Are we not done with this catholic/public witch hunt, at least for this weekend?

Public Schools getting what they want:

1. Prairie Ridge knocks off SHG, and Maine South knocks off Loyola.
2. No Nazareth or Montini in a state title game
3. Two public schools play in the 5a game (the level that started most of this problem)

On the other hand, it would be good if this "treatment" filtered down into the next level i.e. FBS/D. 1 - one of my pet peeves is when during a TV broadcast a player is credited from being from the town in which their private school is located rather than the town that they actually lived in (and likely did youth football in).

Jordan Westerkamp a perfect example. They always say Lombard as hometown, not accurate.

Not particularly, but most information disseminated in the world is not really important. That doesn't mean it doesn't get disseminated.

Not knowing who prepped the teams or what they were told to say during pre-game, it could be that all teams were told to mention their hometowns, but chose not to. Like when the Rochester team was introducing themselves, it may have seemed pointless to say "Rochester" after every player's name.

In the case of SHG, the assumption by the media is probably not much variation in hometowns, although if there was a few from Rochester, it might make Rochester somewhat sympathetic since they would be getting poached. ICCP would be cool, to see how far east they draw from (e.g. in lands formerly covered by Guerin and St. Joe).

Agreed, that it's an interesting theory, but until confirmed, these are currently baseless assumptions.

Westie has a cult like following in Lincoln and all of Nebraska. Huge personal fan base for this "Lombard" native. FYI He is a god in Lincoln.

I am quite sure there are a lot of public schools that don't care about any of those things you listed and are quite indifferent to them happening or not.

Two things that I believe:
* I believe the success factor should be applied to all schools. If a Public school wins 5 out of 6 championships in 5A or 6A or whatever - time to move up a class.

* I think all schools should be more worried about trying to test themselves and their programs versus trying to figure out ways to get to the smallest class possible to beat up on less powerful teams to win titles.

I point to two programs (one public and one private) that I hold in high Esteem with regards to this topic.

1. East Saint Louis - they petition up to play in 7A when in fact they are a 6A or 5A school. you don't see them trying to play 5A so they can running clock everyone.

2. Montini - they schedule the toughest games possible for non-conference against 7A and 8A schools. They are already playing up two classes (the success factor bumped them up from 5A to 6A). They are screaming how unfair it is? Not that I have heard,.. but rather they are saying -what large school can we play to test ourselves against?

I don't think that every thing that occurs in the course of a football season is part of an insidious plot against _________ (insert public or private schools depending on your preference) schools.
Some things things just happen for no particular reason.
In this instance I don't recall anyone ever remotely stating that Loyola had players from outside their legal radius.
Is that what you are trying to imply, that someone was trying to get a Loyola player to say he lived more than 30 miles from the school?

I agree completely. Montini is my closest Catholic school to follow from where I live. In fact East St. Louis is one of the teams they played the previous 3 or 4 years. I agree with you that both schools do a great job of challenging their kids. Montinis four losses this season came to 2 (should've been 3 - fenwick) state championship qualifiying teams. SHOULDVE been four, one could argue Brother rice had the most talent.

BWM - I don't think the reporter was trying to do something like that. And I don't think Loyola would be breaking any rules like that. My point of the post was that the reporter wanted to shed light on the fact that Loyola has kids from several different places. And Maine south and other public schools are more "one town - one team."

Yes. Private schools can take athletes from a 30 mile radius from the school.

No big deal on hometowns, I know that Loyola lists the grade school and hometown of players on the rosters given out at home games for certain sports. So do some other Catholic schools. Mother Mac, St. Iggy

Does anyone know if Rochester has been approached about playing non-conf. in the Chicago area and or have the approached any teams. Would be a good to have them play in the kick off Classic at Soldiers Field. Besides SHG and the playoffs - appears as if most of their competition is so-so

Okay, thanks. Though a 30 mile radius could be a two hour drive, and if anyone is willing to do that, have at it. For Loyola, that would be about the Fox river west and somewhere in Wisconsin north. Hammond is not far 16 miles from the Junior High. There are a few students from the LWE district. 27.4 miles...

One of Carmel's best basketball players a few years ago came from Valpraiso, IN

Hammond is actually only a 20 minute drive from 63rd & Dante. In good traffic times of course. But not far at all.
