That was a fun game to watch. Two very well coached teams with playmakers on both sides of the ball for both. Congrats Loyola.

HF looked as advertised...
Congrats on a great season..
LA's boys kept their composure and made some key plays..
Congrats on a huge win to the boys themselves. Well played by both teams..

Unfortunately HF had a bigger opponent than just LA.

I have no skin in the game either way and could care less who wins... Absolutely great game to watch.

The holding call that brought back the touchdown was an absolute disgrace...

"No skin in the game" but calling a penalty an "absolute disgrace?" Please...

Plenty of emotion at the game. I don't think HF was making friends with the refs based on the 3:1 unsportsmanlike calls they received. (I think somebody on HF sideline cussed out a ref for one of those). Great game. H-H twins are as advertised. LA had to dig deep for the win

The moronic fix comments start. See the $$$ sticking out of the refs pockets....right !! Must be a CCL crew.

Yes it's those damn private schools. The multiplier isn't working obviously

Seriously though, the game hype was fitting, this was a match of #1s..lots of ups and downs for us in the LA stands

Absolutely correct bigkell. It makes me crazy when people say or write it incorrectly. And I see it all the time. However, the correct spelling is "couldn't." Hahaha!

Will Fremd host the semi-final game since they've only hosted one home game?

I just asked the same question in another thread. They will host LA. My guess would be 2pm Sat

I don't think I've ever seen a collection of talent in Illinois high school football like HF had on the field today. 4, 6, 7, 8, 44, 68 were very, very impressive. Good luck to them, wherever they end up playing at the next level. I know at least two are committed (the qb for baseball).

All week I felt confident that if we got down, this Rambler group had the perseverance to stay in the game, and they did. Last year, down 21-0, Clifford came off the bench to lead a 2nd half comeback against Edwardsville.

One thing some of us couldn't figure was why HF went for it on 4th and forever, deep in their own territory, with roughly 3 minutes left and 2 timeouts to use. Giving us that field position and ultimately another TD sealed the game.

Did anyone else find that questionable?

Going with all 4 downs seemed to be working for them up to that point.
I thought the more questionable call was to throw at 4th-and-goal from the 3 when you have NFL talent in your backfield.

I don't think I've ever seen something as dramatic as a 97-yard drive for the win like that.
Absolutely stunning.

Wasn't their punter injured and some other player was filling in? Probably a combination of their 4th down success and the not having confidence in the punter (who probably would've given LA good field position anyways). Yes it was a strange call by HF

Power... Did you see the replay on that call?
Just curious if you thought that was a solid judgement call based on what we saw the entire game.

Also, what about some love finally for LA? All I hear is how much talent HF has and how great they are. We the just got beat by a better team, with better talent

I feel for those who played their final high school game. It will be a memory that will stay with them for decades. Hopefully, they will take pride in their performance and likewise take joy in knowing they gave their teammates and school their best.

Just finished watching recording of game, start to finish.
Initial reaction is "Wow!". One of the most impressive HS games I have ever seen, on both sides.
Teams looked about even in talent (HF a little faster, LA a little bigger).
IMHO, the difference in the game was discipline. Specifically HF penalties.
HF simply did not have the discipline necessary to be the 2015 State champion. Loyola still needs to prove that it does.

I agree with the above posts. Maybe the best IHSA game ever played. More talent and guts out there- both sides of the ball- than I've ever seen. On the HF side, more talent and athleticism than I've seen in 30 years (going back to the great East St. Louis teams of the 80's)---- all coming from a single school district. As for LA, every position seemed to have a D1 or D2 caliber player- very rare--very disciplined football. I'd be interested in how that Loyola team compares to a Concord, CA, or an Oaks Christian, etc.....? Has anyone here seen those type teams in person?

I was really impressed with how the LA defense stepped it up against the very well regarded HF O-line. They got to Grey quite a few times and caused chaos (hurried passes and more importantly sacks; which I recall from somebody else on the board he hasn't really had to contend with because of the O-line). Yes, HF got their points and #4 Hampton made them look silly in that last TD run (which made us groan in the stands but hey, that guy has talent and there's no way a mere mortal would have a chance against him, especially in the 4Q) LA defense kept them in the game and gave the O a chance to regroup and put points on the board.

I thought Holocek's decision to trust his offensive line was the key to this game. The long drives kept an explosive collection of HF offensive talent off the field. A track meet or a lot of three and outs would have been an HF blowout.

Kudos to the defense for doing a pretty good job matching up when in many cases they were overmatched physically. One in particular was 44(Doherty), he looked like he may have been giving up 100 lbs , but he made some big plays in spite of the mismatch.

Fun game to watch.

Sweet water

Check my posts I believe I said this would be HF demise all the way back before they played LWE. I know this program well and it sounds like the same old story. Disapline comes from the coaching staff. Kids don't want to listen they get benched. Crazy year after year HF has all kinds of talent but fall short.

Fun game to watch.[/QUOTE]

Frank Doherty is a stud! The Will backer has to be one. It's a man's job in Holecek's D. Strong enough to set the edge or take on pulling guards against the run and fast enough to be too much for a tackle to handle when rushing the passer. He also has to drop in coverage sometimes.
