To keep from cluttering the MSU prediction thread, I wanted to bring this topic into it's own.

I'm noticing a surprisingly large amount of you prophets are picking State to beat LSU. I have to ask, why? It's not like some are picking state to win 9-10 games that includes a LSU win, most are picking state to be a 6-7 win team that includes a LSU win. Just seems a bit odd to me. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see us finally break the long overdue losing streak to them. But is there really any good evidence out there that shows this year will be any different? Opine..

Other than just using the law of averages, I have no clue why anyone would pick us to be LSU. At this point it seems like our players see purple and gold and we are psyched out from the get go.

Under Mullen we have almost always been able to stop them from scoring a bunch. Our problem has been our ability to score on them. They have 9 new starters on defense, many of which should have had an extra year of practice before starting because several of those 9 that left were juniors. They play us between UF and UGA while we have a bye week before them. We also have them at home and have a moderate chance of being undefeated when they come into town. We have the stars on the DL and experience on the OL to fight with anyone.

I'm not saying we will win, but with those factors it's our best shot in a long time.

People are probably just confusing the concepts of

"it's our best shot at beating them in recent memory" to "we have a good shot at beating them"

Our best chance since this, anyway....

Still makes me sick.

THIS. Never pick us to beat LSU, or to beat Arkansas in Little Rock, no matter how good we are, or how potentially bad the other team might be.

If we pull the win, be pleasantly surprised. But don't ever pencil it in as a win for either of those two games.

I've probably seen us play LSU

more than any other team, in my short life, and I'd say that record is something like 1-15 or so. I still get pissed about the game in 2000.

Maybe because we have a team thats consistently not just struggling to..........

Beat "OFF" each season.**

I've been to 13 of last 15 against LSU and we should have won 3-4 of those games. 2000 being a complete robbery of a win. The ball was clearly fumbled on the 2 and out of the back of the end zone.

Dixon got in on 3rd down, while 4th down was the one reviewed. Last year, if we don't go prevent at end of 1st half last year, we go in down 3 and not deflated. There are always a couple plays that swing that game for us. A 99-98 yard punt return, that had 6 in maroon standing around him allowing the catch, comes to mind also.

LSU lost a ton of experience and this game fits in the perfect spot in the schedule for us on both ends, ours and theirs.

Because what we did 10 years ago against LSU doesn't mean crap when it comes to this game. Heck, what we did 5 years ago doesn't mean crap for this game. Every game we have played against LSU under Mullen has been a competitive game, not the epic beatdowns that we generally expected up until his tenure. They lost a lot of their defense this past year, and we have a very experienced O-line, QB, and RB. If the game was in Death Valley, I would pick LSU. Its at Davis Wade so I am picking us.

Its the same thing with Arkansas. They are a bad football team. The fact that we have never won in Arkansas should hold very little weight in the prognostications. Most of the players on this team have played there one time, not 12.

This isn't the LSU of 2005-11. You don't lose as many people as they did from the defense, their strength, and improve - at least not at in the first half of the season. Have you forgotten the last two times we played those 17ers @ DWS? State was within a TD in the 4th.

This is a classic example of a trap game:
