Its not about the top flight guys. You have to play them for the most part. Its about the mid-tier guys like Javin and Jack White. These are good players that K just refuses to work into the lineup.
He refuses to force them into the line-up.
Come on, you know very well Coach is principled but willing to grow and change. It's not some purposeless stubbornness.

Dattier I think you missed the point 1156jack was making. He wasn't saying that K missed on landing recruit Luke Maye. He was saying that K would never recruit a player like Maye because he wants OAD players. Its like Dukehokie said, at this point in Coach K's career he wants to win and win now. I don't think Luke maye would ever see the court at Duke for that reason.
I didn't read dukehokie's comment like that. I don't think he meant something so extreme as K's recruiting nothing but OADs, and any OADs, like it's closing time and he'll go home w/ anyone. There was some talk of Frank and Marques being OAD, but nothing guaranteed, just like Tyus and Justise. Matt, Grayson, Javin, Jack, Alex O'Connell -- they're all guys who never projected as OADs and w/ the exception of O'Connell, saw limited time as freshmen. Had it not been for Ryan Kelly's injury, Amile would qualify, too.

@Showenuff

Was going over to RR and trashing me to a bunch of rabid, vile UK fans really necessary?

Contrary to what you think, I was not trying to be douche.

Maybe you just don't understand. If you show up at a rivals board 5 minutes after your team just sent them home in a game that would have put them in the Final Four and make a new thread, You're a douche.

I admitted many times it wasn't the smartest move in the world. But I was also taught to be a gracious winner as well as being gracious in defeat. That's all I was trying to do.

And you don't know me or anything about me so refrain from calling me a douche.

Gracious in winning means not rubbing it in. If you were trying to be gracious, you failed miserably and it comes off to everyone (literally, everyone) as a dick move when you post on a rival board after beating them. How would you feel if we all showed up at THR after we beat you (twice) this year? Or how about we all show up after you lose this weekend? Would that be a classy move?

Huge FB article today about him being in class this morning titled "NOW THAT'S DEDICATION!" I would have titled it "UNC HOOP PLAYER SPOTTED IN CLASSROOM" , but , that's just me.
There is nothing in the world as unique as a UNC player actually attending a class

No I admit, even if the intentions were good, it came off badly to many. Of course, I was also dealing with a bunch of whackjob Kentucky fans.

And you didn't say "if" as opposed to "when" regarding our chances this weekend. You're that confident eh? haha

It came off as dickish because it was. That's all there is to it. We don't really care though. Carolina can go to hell. We know you don't like Duke.

I somewhat disagree. I call Josh Hairston starting a third of Duke's games his senior year purposeless stubbornness. You mean to tell me that Hairston should have been getting more playing time than Semi Ojeleye? I think K has his favorites and he rides them too much. Having favorites is fine as most do. I just think he takes it too far and that is the reason we have more transfers than anyone else. Why can't he throw some of the bench players a bone every now and then to keep them engaged?

Hairston averaged under 10mpg as a senior. could those 9.5 minutes gone to Semi his true freshman year where he looked like a deer in headlights? Possibly. But don't put a senior semi from SMU on the 2013-14 roster because he was hardly that player then.

Well said, but thats the very nature of their arrogance....It goes all the way up the food chain from fans to school leaders who will not self-sanction or admit academic fraud...

Well yeah, no player as a freshman is going to be as good as they will be as a senior obviously. But the Hairston/Semi thing is my point. This is the most extreme example but a good one. Hairston was barely ACC material but K still chose to trot him out instead of seeing what he had in his bench players. You don't have to give them major minutes but at least play them 5-7 minutes every now and then to keep them involved.

Duke wanted to redshirt Semi. That's not what he wanted. And that's fine.

Duke also wanted him to play the four (like he did this past season at SMU). Semi wanted to be a wing. He wasn't a better wing than Hood, Sulaimon, or even Dawkins 3+ years ago.

Semi left, matured, and soon realized where his greatest strength on the court could be. In a nutshell, it was where the Duke staff pictured him.

All that said, Semi needed to make the best decision for himself. He seems happy at SMU so I'm happy for him.

Cannot believe that you have the nerve to go to any board claiming that your program has more class. Will not even go into the academic mess at your school but lets look at your history over the last 60 years.Point shaving scandal in the early sixties. Larry Brown and Doug Moe heavily involved.Sainted coach Dean Smith covering up multiple Dwi's for Phil Ford.J R Reid And Steve Bucknall assaulting a NC State student at a bar in Raleigh. Jeff Mciness sleeping with Ford's wife.Multiple players using a known drug dealers cars.Former players running drugs from current coaches house.Real class or real Carolina Way

Topps, you were always cordial on our board before the ban so I'm not sure why you're angry at me. I didn't say my program any more class than anyone else. We have our fanatics just as the other schools do.

Oh. Was Luke Maye a 5 star player like Grayson?
without reading all of this thread I believe he was a 3 or 4 star and had offers from several legit schools like Notre Dame and Clemson. He was recruited by UVA as well but I'm not sure if they ever offered.

Not a question of being angry at you but am sick and tired of Carolina fans not acknowledging that historically they are one of the dirtiest programs of all time while proclaiming their moral superiority

I believe all of what you said as I am sure you know more of the facts on Semi than me. However, take Semi out of the equation. My point is that Hairston should never have been getting those type of minutes. At the very least, rotate him in with Semi or even Alex Murphy. But that is what K does. If you are one of his favorites and a senior, you are going to get your minutes no matter what.

And we feel the same about you lol.

But I do resent my actions being the result of some supposed 'Carolina arrogance'. That had nothing to do with it.
As long as you're here saying "Go to hell, Duke!" and not "Go to hell, DevilsIllustrated" I am not bothered at all. When you come on after a Duke loss, that's already bordering on the latter. Let's just continue hating each others' teams (and possibly schools) without hating each other. I actually like UNC's academic departments, it's the administration I am wary of. UNC ladies aren't bad either (not talking about your football team in case you were confused).

I think you eloquently put into words how I've felt all along, @DukeDenver . I hate Duke, but I do not hate you simply because you root for them. I have friends who root for Duke, and I do not think less of them for it.

UNC and Duke are both fine schools. Many of my former classmates go to Chapel Hill and thrive their academically as well as duke. College athletics has always thrown a monkey wrench into the idea of the student athlete going way back.

Haha, I think we both have a fine appreciation for women no matter what school they go to :D (or what football team they play for amiright?)

Hairston averaged less than 10mpg his senior season. He was also one of those 3- or 4-star players everyone here is clamoring for right now.

Loved Josh but by no means "clamoring" for him now....Great kid, great work ethic, but too much of offensive liability IMO...
