I didn't stay all the way until the end, but I watched the 1st team for each side go out 3 times. The first time it looked like 10 plays, and then the next two times it was with the down and distance markers. It was never total game situations, as they were protecting the quarterbacks and dead ball whistling any fumbles.
Luray's first drive was pretty successful. They had really good size up front, not to mention a big running back(Bryant?) who got half the carries. They were getting 5 or yards a pop, but no big plays and few if any pass completions, so they ran out of plays before scoring.
Skyline's first drive had some big plays, but also a lot of penalties and other miscues, so they exhausted their 10 plays without scoring as well.
(Luray's 2nd team outperformed Skyline's in their alternating series)
The next two Skyline series ended with long touchdown runs by Zayden Burks. Luray was successful at bottling him up at times, but when he broke free, there was no Bulldog fast enough to catch him. The 2nd touchdown came after a bunch of Skyline penalties so if was like 1st or 2nd and 40 yards to go. It looked like a qb keeper to the right, but then Burks got the ball heading to the left and the Bulldog pursuit could not switch directions fast enough and a couple of good blocks frees Burks for the TD run.
The Hawk kicker looked a little better than the Bulldog kicker.
Luray should have some success in managing the clock and pounding the running game this year. I see them winning a lot of low scoring games. Their biggest weakness is a lack of speed in secondary, but if their stout line can hold, that will help out.
Skyline's 1st string quarterback missed a lot of open receivers, so they will want to work on that. But he was very poised when things broke down and could make things happen with his feet.
