I may be jumping the gun, but this one has me excited. Can the Griffin's slow down the Hawks balanced attack?

I can't wait!
There is no question the Griffins will be ready to bring it come Friday night. I believe we will be giving up some size in the trenches, so I hope we can execute.

This is an excellent game! Obviously easy to say after the fact but I was more excited for this one than MS-GBW going into the year.

I am very excited too Bones. Even after last years win I still have a crappy taste in my mouth from 2005. Would love to beat them again.

my too sents...

LWE is as good or better than they were last year.

MS minus the huge, mean, wrecking ball lineman going both ways.
MS QB not as good as the one you lost. (no disrespect, just sayin).
MS lost that really good receiver who always found an opening when your QB got in trouble.
MS without the kicker who could kick it through the end zone consistently.

Its still going to be a great game.

MS really impressed when I was at Duchon with @capnbillhitters. But then you question whether it was a typical GBW or not. But MS is already a proven commodity and boy did they look good. Then LWE with the solid win over C-M, where I expected more points, but I could be nitpicking. I'm almost tempted to go to this game instead of SCN on Friday (except the papers don't cover us anymore so I would never know what happened).

And @JCHILLTOPPERS I see you but can't be goated into that one yet. Talk to me after week 4.

Just curious MS4. Were you at the GBW game wearing the big fishing hat?

Sorry. Nike hat.

Hey @MS4EVER On first glance I thought you were hovering off the ground with black stumps for legs without feet.

Glad I took a second look.

Good luck on Friday night. If @Cross Bones decides to head over, I may have to join him.

lol I was trying to figure that out as well with the player with his legs bent superimposed where MS4 was standing!

MS4 - looking good!! What position did you play back in your day? Looks like you might still be able to deal some damage from the DLine!

LOL! I'm just fat now. I was a svelte 150# back in high school. I played QB and FS on horrible teams.

Thanks Voodoo! It should be a great crowd. MS is celebrating our 400th program win from last year. Inviting any alumni who want to come back and be recognized during pregame.

Howdy fellas! Hopefully I'm not bringing a flamethrower to your nice n' cozy marshmallow roast 'round the campfire with my very first post...but I felt obligated to [objectively] respond the above points from jcrew.
*Premptive caveat: NO disrespect to any of the MS warriors who won state in 2016...just calling it like I see it:
1. Huge Lineman and loss of same: he was definitely a man among boys (most of the time) but also took some plays off and relied on size advantage a lot. Got beat on some plays by undersized players going full tilt.

2. QB downgrade (?): #4 from '16 was no doubt a great kid, super athlete & strong leader...but factually speaking, he Majored in running and Minored in throwing. If read #1 wasn't wide open...he was off & running. It can really work (Just ask Mr. Bliss), but there were quite a few times when big plays were missed for the sake of 5 yard perilous runs. JOS at the helm in '17? Great first game...but too early to say for sure. I can tell you that I've watched him for years and #9 has great touch, can make all the throws and ALWAYS has his eyes downfield looking for open receivers. Classic scrambler vs. runner.

3. WR: assuming you're referring to the 6'6" hoops player/Football WR. Yep you can't coach size and he really came into his own in the end of regular/season playoffs...but current WR's are faster, stronger & frankly meaner than the MS receiving corps has been in years past. Watch these kids block for #41 and you'll see. Oh and they can run & catch a little too. #9 went 13-13 on completions vs. GBW. Great stat, but what des it also tell you? ZERO drops from his receivers. Not all those throws were in the numbers/center mass.

4. Kicker...you got me there. We miss him. COME BACK Mr. McNulty!!!
Phew! Popped my forum cherry. Damn it feels good to be a gangster...

Obviously the O'Rourke kid is the X-factor if he consistently collapses the pocket.
My question for LWE fans is how is the speed on the ends and OLB's.? Fotis reversed field about 5 or 6 times and if GBW's edge was one step faster, it's a 4-8 yd loss, vs. 10-20 yd gains and one almost to the house.
Also disagree Accipter on how good Leongas was last year; regardless of level, turnovers factor into losses more than anything else, 26/2 td to int means you are smart.
I think this will be a close game, Maine South will score for sure, but can LWE create some short fields, and get a T.O. Or two to decide the difference?!?
Can't wait!

Mate,

I don't remember saying Leongas wasn't good (or smart). The kid got a full ride to Johns Hopkins...so that's clearly a good indicator of his intelligence. I was responding to the comment that the current MS QB is a substantial downgrade over last year. I simply think it's too soon to say that as a declarative statement of fact.

Agreed that O'Rourke is a factor especially against a smallish/youngish MS o-line. But I see your 'X' factor and raise you one (x19 years). I'm speaking of MS Off Coordinator/Sorcerer Supreme: Charlie Bliss. Lots of teams play MS tough (for a half or even 3 quarters) and then Bliss works his magic/makes adjustments and just flat out befuddles D coordinators.

Talented DE vs Offensive Guru who has forgotten more about how to confuse high caliber Defenses (GBW anyone?) than most will ever know...I'll wager on the coach (especially with the weapons he has to work with). MS 42-LWE 28

I'm a MS alum for the record, and Leongas was in the same position last year as a zero rep senior; very true there is a lot TBD with the new kid. I think Charlie will get creative with Fotis this week. My questions about the game were strictly about edge speed of LWE because GBW couldn't contain 5 counters that Fotis reversed field for positive gains vs substantial losses

Appears that we are in violent agreement friend.
However, I'm less concerned about edge speed from LWE because I think MS will find success w/quick passes over the middle...and/or split them out 4 wide and then attack the gaps with interior delayed runs. Another way to counter an active/aggressive/crashing DE is to run right at him and have tackle/pulling guard chip 'em with quick angle blocks...
Will be an interesting chess match. Can't wait!

I don't recall using the words substantial downgrade. Just said I (in my opinion) didn't think he was as good. Read what I said Mate.

So true Padre. We are just hoping we can keep the score manageable.

I still don't know about the suspensions...Can anyone elaborate?

I just hope we can compete with LWE.

We are so undermanned.
Pr; You will be much happier if you don"t let LA live rent free in your head. Enjoy the MS success and don't worry about LA. MS, for what it is, is an excellent school and I can tell you knowing some LA parents, they just don't talk about MS. Believe it or not, that's the realty. They know that are blessed people with bigger fish to fry. Good luck tonight! ( no sarcasm intended.)
