Long term thought. Lincoln Way had no answer for St. Charles Speed on defense. Can’t see anyway they beat a Loyola a Marist or Maine South

MJ this was a mud bowl game...did you really think there was a blueprint to follow? Watering down a field maybe but this was pre-turf at its finest. StC East played well enough to win for sure. No dominance on either side...unless you count some more bad officiating.

I think st. Charles has the blueprint on how to beat them. Go small and send pressure up B gaps from different angles. I assume the rest of their opponents will watch this film closely

So will the LWE coaching staff.

Anyone who saw the game, how much did the field conditions affect the game?

It slowed the game down for sure but it wasn’t muddy per say. It was a game where both defenses were dominant. Not sure it would have been that much different had it been dry.

Ultimately the best unit on the field was the lwe d line and the worst unit on the field was the lwe o line. Think that would be the best on any grass field

MJ were you in the comfy pro style press box? Did you not notice the WHITE uniforms LWE was wearing? Dad...seriously if you think WWS / LWE 2005 before field turf at LW... That was the similar comparison. I have seen worse for sure but the field changed both teams plans. No question LWE was tested and easily could have lost this one. Thankfully we have some talent that bailed this one out...two Sophs come to mind. Why kick off to a guy that was third in the 100 meters last year as a Frosh...St. Charles question #3 in the fourth quarter.

Not sure on this situation but sometimes you tell a kicker not to do something and they still do it. Even if you practice it all week and repeatedly tell them not to do it.

Not in the pressbox. If anything it slowed the game down a bit, I agree. To your point, I've seen worse and I would have expected the poor field to give LWE a bigger advantage due to their size advantage on both sides.

serious question -- has LWE's o line play, especially pass pro, been this poor all season or did SCE perhaps find something to exploit with their scheme?

Serious answer. The current crop of L-Way kids hardly ever play on GodTurf. Perhaps contributing to why the 4th school no longer exists. LWE will be on Field Turf for the next game and hopefully games. The coaches at LWE would love to have Oswego scheme off of this game sample. QB is not a drop back skill set...but appears to get the job done.

@King MJ

This is still the absolute most difficult football spectating experience I have ever gone through. Just re-reading this thread brought back the painful misery of watching a HUGE upset playoff victory be ripped away from that group of SCE football players in the final 6 mins of the game by a series of coaching decisions that can only be classified as pure mind boggling incompetence.

1) Going for it on 4th down and failing from your own 35 yd line midway through the 4th quarter in a game you lead and where your defense has been stellar all day.

2) Failing to go for a 2 point conversion to try and make it a 3 point lead with a minute left so you can't get beat by a FG.

3) Kicking the ball off deep to LWE's best returner right after the second brain fart and watching him rip off a huge return that set up the game winning FG in the final 20 seconds of the game.

BTW...it was my son (as a junior) that made a diving grab while double covered and caught that 21 yard wheel route to take the 13 - 12 lead with a minute to go. I still watch that play on hudl and smile and then shake my head. For him not to be able to celebrate that catch as the game winning play was one of the worst feelings I have ever had as a parent. It would have been a memory that lasted his lifetime. Instead, it's a footnote in one of the biggest debacles in SCE playoff history.

Mark...I feel your pain. I still have no clue how that catch was made! This was a gift to LWE wrapped up by the decision makers at SCE and can understand the memory flashback. Corey, this is an avenue to revisit all sorts of glory day moments and MM is doing just that. Thankfully I didn’t have to do the same with coaching decisions deciding an outcome as obvious as this example was.

No disrespect I have lived through a similar situation with my younger sons season cut short losing a qtr final game to NN. We made to many mistakes in the game losing 21-7. NN went on and won state. I still believe our team that year should of won state with all the talent they had. I was just trying to say let it go because it will eat away at you and in the grand scheme of things it’s just a HS game.

I hear ya Corey. I don’t think about it much anymore. I happened to stumble on this old thread when I was looking for something else and it definitely brought back some bad memories.

Still speechless after watching that game over a year later. Still believe that Abe Swanson's performance in that game is one of the best individual performances I can ever remember seeing at the high school level.

Best linebacker to play for SCE that I had the pleasure of watching.

Why are we still talking about this? Worse than the Cutler threads

LWeast Dad ..I believe as the season of giving is upon us, it is good to reflect upon prior years gifts. Look at this one as a gift from SCE to LWE and that is why the reflection is taking place now. I personally was thankful after sitting thru the rain in St. Charles and watching the field goal of Dominic sail thru the uprights for the win. Happy Holidays.

It was a definitely a gift from our coach not our players. But yes, it was very nice gift and one that LWE accepted graciously and didn’t squander. Merry Christmas WIU78. I’ve always enjoyed your posts.

As for LWeastdad, I’m still waiting for that new thread so I have something more interesting to read.
