The SWSC championship game.

LWE has looked unstoppable except for a small while against NC. H-F has been dominant in the 2nd half of games. Tyson/Holyfield...every eveguard your ears. I may take this one in Friday, or I may just go to Lockport and pick up a Fat Ricky's pie on the way home...that's always good.

Thoughts?

Expected H-F to handle LWW much easier than they did on Friday. Was it just a bad game or an indicator that H-F isn't as good as many thought? LWE has Henning back and seems to be a cut above in 8A. It's in Frankfort. I'm thinking LWE wins comfortably.

LWW could have been a trap game, or HF not as good as rankings indicate, or LWW better...

All I know is if the game is close at half it could get really interesting.

Hey Bones two questions.
*You say trap game? Just what do you mean by that?
*If the game is close at half it could get really interesting. Do you feel East hasn’t been just as tough in the 2nd half? I don’t recall them blowing a lead.

Trap game for H-F to possibly lose focus. Typically these fall before and/or after "big games" as LWW being sandwiched between 'Brook and LWE I think qualifies as a possible trap.

I think East has been tough generally all game from the scores I've been seeing. Often times when you're flat out physically better than your opponent you don't need coaching adjustments to continue beating your opponent in the 2nd half. This goes to what I have consistently been saying about HF, they are playing close 1st halves and dominating in the 2nd half. This suggests, to me, that they are not so much physically better instead scheming different in the 2nd halves of games.

Or if it's a blowout in the 1st half it can continue to be a blowout in the 2nd
Or if it’s a blowout in the first half, it might tighten up around 4 minutes left in the third quarter, and then go back to being a blowout. We can do this all day.

Or maybe it'll be a blow out then not a blowout, then a blowout again, then not. Then Super Dave might jump out of an airplane onto the field using a couple grocery bags as parachutes.

HF for the last few years has been a tough game. Expect it to be a good game.

East doesn't win every year. HF has won 3 out of last 5

You are correct. Since Coach Buzea took over, it has been a very competitive series. That's shy I think it will be a good game.

Random facts from last weekend's H-F win over LWW (28-14):
  • game is 7-0 West (now 3-2 with other loss vs LWC) at half
  • game seems to take a turn when H-F goes for a 1st down on their opening possession of the 3rd quarter from their own 36 facing 4th & 4 (a short pass squirts loose for a long TD)
  • 14-14 beginning of 4th quarter
  • West's next (and final) 3 possessions go: fumble away for an H-F defensive TD, fumble away again in own territory (H-F scores) and throw an interception (H-F runs out the clock)
  • H-F missed both extra point kicks attempts but was successful on each 2-pt conversion after their next score
  • LWW success early by moving the chains and keeping the ball based upon downhill running with a good-sized back behind similar lead-blockers
Spin that as you wish as it relates to this Friday's showdown.

East has a tendency to start a it slow (against Crete and NC at least). HF and East is always a tough game. Looking forward to it.

Not gonna lie. I thought it would be much more chatting over this.
Just another chance to see Coach Buzea and his hand picked head coaches from Indiana with the crazy salaries, attempting to instill discipline on the Viking youth. No one cares about that Jcrew.

I think it would be a different story if this was happening a few years ago, but since LWE has been so dominant since the merger everyone just expects them to win week in and out. Similar to Alabama. After a while, what else is there to say about it?

Wow! I don’t know what school you support, but obviously you don’t support HF. They are the number two ranked team in the state and I would think this would create a little more conversation. That’s the point I’m trying to make. Go BLUE!

No I get it, I'm just saying I think that's why people aren't as excited about it. The expectations are different. I'm a Palatine guy, by the way.

Just as a note: two schools were not totally combined to form the new LWE. All of LWNorth is now at East. Roughly half of LWE moved west...to LWC and same from Central to LWWest. If anyone cares I could provide the exact numbers.

I was going to mention that, but figured it would only raise unnecessary conversation. Another thing they don’t realize is, almost everyone of last year’s all-conference players at Central used to play for East.

You now seen what I’m talking about when I say this is a catholic league board.
I honestly wouldn’t look at it as a sign of disrespect for the program. Everyone who is even remotely familiar with high school football in Illinois knows how good East is. The fact is, if I had to guess, this board is mostly comprised of men 40 or older. In the grand scheme of things, LWE is a relatively new program. The CCL and ESCC programs have been around much longer, and quite simply, have a much larger alumni following. Obviously that is why this is a private dominated board. With that being said, East is a beast and I expect them to win this one going away.

I think HF plays it close. To me 28-14 isn't a blowout unless it was 28-0 when backups scored a couple TDs late in the 4th. I am predicting East 28-14.

But honestly it's not like East blew everyone out last year and had two miracle finishes, two toughies against MS, before pulling out a come from behind comfortable win over LA.

I haven't conceded the 8A championship to East although they are the favorite. They'll get some challenges before it's all over. Today will be one. The playoffs will have more.

Agreed. You just never know in the playoffs, especially 8A. LWE squeaked out a close 1-point victory in the second round last year against St. Charles East. Who would have thought that game would be as close as it was? I see East as the clear favorite in 8A at this point, but there's a long road to hoe.
