I'm not able to cut and paste it, but I just noticed there is a new logo/wordmark for MSU on the university site that incorporates the same logo on the new football helment. So, this must be a university-wide change, not just the athletic department. Here's the link if you want to see:

</a><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.msstate.edu/">http://www.msstate.edu/

Sorry if this is Weinerschnietzel-esque but I had not seen this one...

It was bad three weeks ago and it's worse now. Change is alright...but change without improvement is not a good thing. It's a costly mistake.

Did any of you ever tell anybody that you went to "M-State"? Where did that even come from?

Maybe "Miss. State," "Miss'ssippi State," "State," or "MSU," but that "M-State" **** is for the birds.

Bring back the interlocking M-S-U and put the M-State logo in a much deserved grave.

The interlocking logos have faded out. I like this new one. As long as the white helmets are gone, if I'm a State fan I'm happy.

"Did any of you ever tell anybody that you went to "M-State"? "

No one says they are wearing a pair of swooshes.

I don't mind the branding idea even though few schools have one single logo.

And they're all perplexed. "Why don't they give Norwood the damned ball more?"

Incidentally, I saw Sam Baker, Justin Peele, and some other unidentified Falcons in front of the Crossroads Grill next to Publix in Flowery Branch this afternoon. I guess they'd all been up here for meetings.

They weren't crying, but they had that look of pondering "roster changes."

...is not a strategy. Furthermore, the take a look at the resume who performed the work: http://www.joebosack.com/
More specifically, take a look at the clients. The second one on the list? Arena Football League.

Now look at the rest of the list. Where are names like with a status of the likes of Florida, Texas, Georgia, Michigan, USC, Penn State, UNC, Oklahoma, LSU, Ohio State, Nebraska, UCLA, Notre Dame, etc.

I'm not critiquing the artwork of the individual (nor will I attempt to). However, if it was <span style="font-style: italic;">that</span> important to upgrade our visual identity, we should have hired a firm that handled clientele that would be more similar to our stature. (Read to say: Div. I-AA, II, III, USFL, WLAF, and Arena Football League logos ain't us.)

Taking the script Ole Miss off of your helmet and putting "Mississippi" on it, and then shoving it down your fans throats.

Whether the interlocking logos have faded out or not, our interlocking logo is associated with some of our most successful teams- like the 80 team, the 99 team, etc. M-State is associated with Croom and losing to Maine. White helmets are associated with Charley Shira, post-2000 Jackie, and Croom.

I imagine that a lot of Ole Miss fans probably feel the same way about their script Ole Miss logo. That's one reason why you don't see schools change a lot- Bama, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, LSU- their's is very 70's-ish, and Arkansas all have kept the same general thing on their helmets for years with the same general color scheme, for that very reason.

And I still don't understand why MSU can't use the interlocking MSU, or some variation thereof that is not Nike owned and still stick the M-State logo on the jersey somewhere on the sleeve or on the neck of the jersey in the middle. Heck, I'm in favor of using Nike stuff for a year or two to buy back the logo and then go to someone else. Let's face it the M-State logo making us more recognizable has worked so well that it has taken ESPN only five years and going to tell us apart. I think the damn M makes it more confusing because it sort of looks like Ole Miss M with a banner that says STATE in front of it. At least with an interlocking logo, you can at least spell out Mississippi State University.

Could you imagine the backlash if Bama took the numbers off of their helmets and put an elephant on there?

...to add a spiked collar to the "G"...or amend other designs.

It does, however, take a little creative genius to learn how to leave "well enough" alone.

What the heck is that ribbon symbol intermixed with the M-State logo?

It looks totally gay!!!

Please tell me idiot Croom didn't make our team wear that on the side of their helmets for a game. Good Lord, you don't use collegiate football helmets to promote a cause!

Which ribbon is that anyway?

I am sooo glad that Croom got Broomed.

Several universities have had special helmets to promote causes most notably Iowa. When Hayden Fry was their coach, the Hawkeyes had ANF (America Needs Farmers) decals on their helmets.

Word on this board was that we did this as payback for 17ing up and NOT having our women's soccer and volleyball teams wear pink jerseys during breast cancer awareness month (unlike pretty much every school in the nation). After getting some heat for that, we kind of paid them off by wearing the pink ribbons on our helmets (ironically 2 days AFTER breast cancer awareness month ended). Proof that even with Templeton gone and Byrne in charge, we can still 17 things up royally sometimes.

Thank you, Croom and LT for 5 years of lousy football and doing things like this pink ribbon deal to future degrade and embarrass our football program.

Did we really keep Croom for 5 years??? Sometimes I wake up at night and wonder if it was just all a horrible dream. Then shapes become clear, I see the digital clock, remember that it's sometime AM in 2009 and that Dan Mullen is now our football coach. After that I'm able to relax and drift back into sleep.

Just for the record, I told my mom about the ribbon deal and she thought it was stupid. She's a cancer survivor who went through an 8 year battle with Multiple Myeloma.</p>

While it may look barely acceptable, hearing it said out loud makes me want to destroy the logo and never speak of it again.

that we promoted breast cancer awareness and auctioned off the helmets for the cause.

Just embarrasing.

I understand an organization wanting to use a football game to promote awareness for breast cancer. I have no problem with ads on the videoboard or banners around the stadium. However, I do not understand why the University wants(ed) to get into the business of selling helmets for charity. When and why did we get into the fund raising business for other charities?

Someone mentioned, the Wbball team not wearing pink last year (or whenever). However, was there ever really any bad pub from that? Was there ever going to be? I doubt it. I only saw one other football game that promoted awareness and that was a Thursday night Temple vs someone. Temple had a small ribbon on the back of the helmet from what I remember. At the time, I thought that was more about the teams being on ESPN and reaching a large audience. How large of an audience did it reach to advertise on the side of a helmet, in front of 30K, during a non-televised game? Like I said, I don't understand.

not the ****** coaching and lackluster effort by our football team, at home, on a picture perfect fall afternoon, against a medicore Kentucky team....

Here is AD Byrne's statement and it sounds like his ending remark indicates that the M-State emblem is not a favorite of the majority of fans or alumni. I would venture that the "some in favor" amount is around 12% of MSU supporters. The last line sounds almost like a plea to get behind the new logo.

That won't ever happen with me. I can't speak for others though. Even if the team goes 12-0, that logo still sucks.

Not only that, but who amongst the 40k people who showed up to the game isn't aware of breast cancer by now?

<font color="#000">We have received plenty of e-mails and there has been a lot of conversation ever since Dan Mullen appeared at the press conference naming him our new head football coach. Dan carried with him a helmet mocked up with the new M-State logo on the side. Some of the communication we have received is in favor of the new logo, some not.</font></p>

I've not seen many positive posts about this new logo. Does anyone really like it??
