He's probably one of about 4 or 5 QBs that Bama will end up offering. It does get more interesting and challenging to say the least but I'd like to think if we can take of the wins and losses he'll still sign with UK. We'll see.

LOL. Some always need something to worry about so they have reason to post.

I wasn't worried until I read (unconfirmed) that he visited Bama this weekend. Don't know if that's true or not but after supposedly shutting things down and getting "married" to Stoops I would find that troubling.

According to Rivals, Jones is on 'Bama's offer list. 'Bama has offered 9 QBs (5 pro style and 4 D/T guys) for 2017, 7 of which are presently committed to other schools. Other than they are usually in the top 3 every year, I don't know "how" 'Bama recruits. By that I mean do they really "show guys some love" or do they take a "we're AL, here's your offer, take it or leave it" approach knowing there are plenty of great players dying to get an offer. My immediate sense is if is the former, it may be a struggle to keep him in the fold but if it is the latter I think he sticks. JMO.

Peace

per rivals, AL would have 3 four stars, one five star and a 3 star in the four classes ahead of Mac. And while Jacksonville, FL may seem close to Tuscaloosa, AL, it is actually about 600 miles without direct flights. He would get to throw it about 20-25 times a game at AL, but probably 40 times a game in our up tempo pace. Now if you want to say which offensive line would protect the QB best, you might stump me, except to say we have one 5* coming at OT in 2016 and a 5 star probably coming in 2017.

So who is next on our QB board?

Hopefully, Gran and Hinshaw are already working on Jones' replacement.

I get it. You think it will be hard to keep Jones on board because Alabama won the NC, or maybe because Alabama signed Damien Harris. Fair enough, but consider this. Jones recently said he is solid to Kentucky, and will not take more visits. Alabama is definitely a run the ball 1st type of offense. Gran says Kentucky will run a balanced offense, passing out of a pro style shotgun set. Jones has said he loves Gran's offense. We aren't going to get any guarantees, because there aren't any to be given until February comes. But once a verbal commitment is made, these are usually honored. There are occasional exceptions. But I think the Landon Young and Drake Jackson signings plus the recent commitment by JaVonte Richardson should give us some reassurance about Jones, and should definitely give Jones a lot of reassurance about the direction of Kentucky's offense under Eddie Gran. If Jones is comfortable with Coach Hinshaw, this should work out fine for Kentucky. Would ideally like to get Wills on board now. Sure couldn't hurt. Another thing. If Harris had it all to do over again, he might very well make a different decision. I think Jones is smart enough to see his opportunity at Kentucky, so we will know in February.

I think this is right but I also do think we need some DT's.

I mean, we have Walker Wood committed too. Its not like we would be out in the cold if he were to decommit. I think we hold on to him though.

He can't sign with anyone until after the season (next February NSD). If the season goes down as a dumpster fire (with more calls Stoops replacement), he will probably consider going somewhere else. If the season is a surprise success, then there's a decent chance that he (along with Stoops) stays with UK.
In short, nothing is certain with a 4 or 5 star recruit until the season plays out. Then he will make the best decision FOR HIM from the offers in front of him and the information available at that time. Most people should try not to get too worked up about verbals this far out although it is very positive that he is "solid' and high on UK at this point.

We have a commitment from Bohanna. As far as I can tell, MJ Webb is the only other 2017 defensive tackle prospect Stoops is still seriously recruiting. But Webb has offers from at least 9 SEC schools including Alabama. It's possible that Stoops might add another juco at the very end of the class if a scholarship opens up. But I agree with your earlier conclusion. With only 8 seniors, scholarship numbers are going to be very tight.

There are miles between the gap of those two guys. Jones is elite. Wood won't stick at QB.

Everyone understands that Walker Wood isn't an SEC quarterback prospect. Wood was offered by Stoops because he is Jedrick Wills' and Landon Young's high school teammate, and because he is legitimately 1 of the 3-4 best high school football players in the 2017 class inside our state. Wood is a high motor athlete with ability. Wood wants a chance to try his hand as a quarterback, but he won't stick there. However, he has a real chance to become a pretty good college safety, and he is also an ideal special teams player.

Yup gonna be a long summer of threads like this

MAC OFFERED BY FLORIDA STATE
MAC OFFERED BY TEXAS
MAC OFFERED BY OHIO STATE

all I can tell some of you is grow a pair and trust what the kid has said about his commitment to this program, trust this staff to turn away flippers
Texas and Osu won't offer because of style but Miami, Florida, Tennessee, and Ole miss are teams that could give some heart attacks. Lol

It's a shame this kid isn't any good. I can't believe the staff even offered this kid. I mean he was a lowly ranked player with no power 5 offers when we offered aND he committed. What were the coaches thinking??

Ummm......

We are taking 4 DLinemen in this class. You are a broken record why don't you try proving to the board that you are capable of posting about something else? No matter how far the topic is from dlinemen you bring it to EVERY thread. I bet you post in the rafters about DLinemen

lets look at this another way, for years when we got a commitment all you would hear is "what are his other offers" or "we are scraping the bottom of the barrel offering him" and now when a kid that we offered first is offered by alot and soon all of the elite schools there is panic! Enjoy the process and this football team. Might be the best in the last 30 to 40 years..

I believe this guy is ours. I know people fret about this because it is bama but they do that with all major recruits. They like to see who bites easily or a target they'll have to work for

QBs seem to be the position that sticks and less likely to flip than other positions, maybe because there aren't as many it seems that way but I don't think so. Bama, and most everyone else, tries to take a qb in each class. Bama had an early commit from one but he is one who changed his mind and did flip so they are searching. I hate saying this but Kiffin is a pretty good qb coach, his qb coaching and ideas have made Bama a potent offense to go alone with that defense. But rumors are out there that he is looking for a head coaching job and 16 could be his last season there, it may or may not be true, RammerJammer could probably give a more imformed opinion on that. But it all comes down to this, you either recruit kids other schools want and have to stay on them all year or recruit kids no one else wants.

I think it all depends on how early and often this kid wants to play...

if Hoak turns out to be a stud and looks to be the guy after Barker, then Mac might as well warm the bench in Tuscaloosa and win a title...

but the tide will have a 3 deep of 4-5 stars...so maybe there won't be a lot of run to be had down there...

when the Florida schools start calling is when things could get interesting...being from down there I'm sure that would be tough to turn down...he came up watching Timmy Tebow and then Famous Jameis...

Dumb post of the day (perhaps the week, let's watch).

Lol I guess Mac is a liar then if this is a dumb post. Dont be so insecure about it he said he is staying with Kentucky and I take him for his word. A man is inly as hood as their word so relax he will be cat unless Mac has no integrity.

that "if" is so remote from even possibly happening that it doesnt bare mentioning. Barker will be our 2016 starter unless he flops/is hurt, then it is Johnson. Hoak is 4th string from everything I've heard, behind walkon Mattingly.

yeah fair enough...

hoak is still real young...he'll prob RS and then have 4 years left...

a lot of things still to shake out...

mac is going to get more offers and more attention...

we all know the girls that come with being a Bama QB...one little look from a kappa in a crimson sundress with a hounds tooth on a weekend visit..."hey you're Mac right...come take a pic with me and all my sisters..."...yeah...all bets are off...

I think it is a little unfair to characterize him as a "fourth string" QB. the thing is we do have some other good candidates and no doubt MOST freshmen QB need to redshirt no matter how good they are unless it is an emergency.

Nose tackles currently on the roster: Elam, Pringle, Hyde. Other returning defensive tackles: Meant, Middleton, Dubose. True freshmen: Cross, Looney. Commitment: Bohanna. So you are right in suggesting that we don't have enough defensive tackles. Coach Stoops really needs solid contributions this year from Middleton, Dubose, and Pringle, all of whom are very inexperienced. Ironically, as quality depth on our offensive line has improved, depth on our defensive line has gone in the other direction. This may force Coach Eliot to use Looney as a true freshman, especially if Dubose isn't healthy. Of course, it would be great to get a 2nd commitment from a defensive tackle in our 2017 recruiting class. But numbers are already an issue. Only 8 seniors are listed on scholarship in 2016. With 11 commitments in 2017, the math says we are already projected to be 4 players over the roster limit, even after LaRubbio is gone. My guess is that Stoops would take another juco defensive tackle at the end of his 2017 class, if a scholarship opens up.
